I have recently put my 18" OBR on Gunbroker, and this morning one of my potential buyers contacted me about seeing an ad on Armslist Vermont.
This Criminal has basically copied and pasted my Gunbroker ad. I have marked as a scam and contacted Armslist about this. Please any members in Vermont find this guy and beat his ass. |
| I've had the same thing going on for YEARS on Ebay with a car I sold. SOLD the car 7 years ago and it still to this day pops up for sale by someone on Ebay. I know its my car because A. It looks just like mine. B. I took that picture. C. It has MY house in the background. |

You know, I thought it was just me - I kept seeing the same damn skid-steer loader all over craigslists nationwide when I was looking for one ... great deal too.

My Gunbroker add, and the scam add from Vermont, or wherever they are. I have contacted Armslist. Sent a friendly e-mail to the scumbag, and flagged the add.
I did not contact the ATF, Because the gun is still in my safe, but this still has to be Fraud at the very least. Correct? http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=386423310 http://www.armslist.com/posts/2546575/vermont-rifles-for-sale--larue-tactical-5-56-18-obr |
| If you notice, the guy's ad is always the same format. North Carolina, North Carolina...Virginia, Virginia...Washington, Washington... and so forth. I contacted him about a Colt LE901 shortly after the Sandy Hook debacle. His ad was in NC. Tried to set up a face to face and he told me he was actually in Illinois. I was able to get a phone # out of him which turned out to be a TX #. I refused to send him a check until the rifle arrived at FFL, which he would not agree to. Offered to use the PistolPay website, refused. Ended up smelling a rat and walking away. I ran his email address through google and got a hit on Scambook where he had took some poor guy for about 3k. If this asshole hits one person a week, he is making more money every year than I'll see in a couple of years. |

He may never see the one that catches up to him..... I'm just sayin'. Dangerous game. |

First thing this morning I sent a nasty E-mail to the perpetrator of the Armslist ad along with an E-mail to Armslist support along with flagging the ad several times today, and the ad is still there. This speaks a lot to the Armslist administrators. Not very vigilant.
I have already had one person drop from the watch list. I really can't blame them. |
| Honestly, you're wasting your time with the Armslist ppl. They aren't interested in clamping down on this. If they wanted to they could require a more stringent registration. At the least they could track ip addresses or help authorities track these frauds down. Personally, the only way I'll do anything on a Armslist is if I can set up face2face. |

I collect M1 Garands and have saved this picture for years as it was a scam similar to what the OP posted. Asking questions helps as does asking for additional, detailed, pictures of parts. In the case of a Garand, there are so many numbered parts you can get a sense for the scam based on response. There is also Tineye, a reverse image lookup that searches the internet for the same photo - not foolproof by any measure - but an additional safety step.
I hope you have a great SHOT show Mark and Crew! Tineye Reverse Image Lookup
