I have owned many AR's and always did whatever work they need and never had a problem until now. Need some of your idea's. I wanted the lightest AR possible is the reason for the 6720. With a Trijicon TA01 it comes in at
6 lb,  6oz.
I would like to change the muzzle break, however that's the reason for this post.
I can't get the damn thing off.
Heat––-No
Frozen––-NO
Called Colt to be sure that they did not put something on the threads and they said no and they also said it was put on very tight.
I can purchase a barrel vise but the price they are asking is plum nuts.
SO I'm asking for your help.

Are you using a vise now?

Did you buy the gun new?

You have to use a vise to get it off. I have a brownells upper receiver vise block that I use. There is no way you could hold the upper/gun and torque the muzzle brake off by hand with a wrench.

FWIW, I have had a couple 6720's and many other Colt's. I have never had a problem taking a muzzle brake off when done correctly.

My vise block: http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/rifle-tools/bench-vise-blocks/ar-15-m16-upper-receiver-vise-block-prod27411.aspx

HTH!

Not to be a dick, but I don't see how you can have owned many ARs, claim to have done all your own work and never bought a barrel vise?

Regardless, as Predator has advised, Brownells has all the AR type tools you will need to modify and maintain your ARs.

Cheers

At this point your only course of action is to cut it off.

You could also just take it to a gunsmith and have them install the new brake at the same time.

You don't need to buy a barrel vise, you can make your own.

Get a 2x4 or simmilar size block of wood cut two pieces a few inches long and clamp them together. Drill a hole along the seam between the two blocks one size smaller than the OD of the barrel (if you do the same size you won't get the necessary friction to hold on the the barrel).

Wrap a piece of paper around the barrel where you'll be claming it to protect the finish then clamp the barrel between the blocks in a bench vise or by clamping the blocks and barrel to a large stationary object.

With the barrel now held securly you can apply the necessary ammount of torque to remove the flash suppressor.

This is what I did for my SR-15 and it worked like a champ.

Here is a high quality barrel vise from Brownells for $27.99 which shouldn't break the bank; especially if someone can swing a 6720 or any AR for that matter.

Barrel Vise

Well Buddyhoohaw you say " Not to be a Dick" . What else can you call yourself with a name like " hoohaw".
If you can't post something helpful, then why post ?There is always people like you who think they know it all and really all they are doing is trying to down grade someone and build up their post count. There are a lot more here that know what you are than those that think your funny.
Predator, you to are the type that like to make smart remarks like " not owning a vise", purchase a barrel vise.
I got the muzzle brake off, but not thanks to either of you.
I have never had the need to spend money on something that I could workout or make myself.
I feel sorry for both of you, but maybe just maybe you will grow up and be helpful someday.
Have a nice day.

At least you bought Colt's so the maintenance schedule is low.

Oh and thanks for helping me raise my post count by 2!

Cheers
