When I received an order last week. I actually LOOKED at the dillo after I disengaged it from the paper backing .  Before placing it with the others I have, I examined it b/c it caught my eye.  I then did some investigation.

It appears that there is a new laser etching machine or a new technique in Leander.  The laser etching looks brigthter and bolder on the latest dillos.  I compared my Ft Hood editon dillos and they all had the newer,. bolder etching as well.  I never noticed it m uch on them b/c they 'different' anyways.as well.

Here are several pics of the new with an older version.  The recent dillo also appears to be a deeper, richer, darker black anodizing .

Anyone else noticing a difference in the etching?  The silver etching appers more 'silvery' and richer in tone.

I am not certain, because they are purple dillos, but the 2009 Holiday and the 2010 S.H.O.T. also appear to have the cripser, brighter etching

Wow someone's ears were ringing.  While using my dillo today I was thinking if it would be easier to laser etch rather than silkscreen.  Granted the initial startup would be more expensive but in the long term it would really make things easier.

I'm glad they made the move.

I noticed this also with one I got a couple weeks ago.

Put the Dillo down Al.  Slowly step away from the Dillo.

Do you keep yours in your gun safe?

I do!

PONDFLY (or anyone)

Are you supposing all the writing up until now was slikcreened instead of laser etched?

The former writing was a bit 'sharper' and easier to read, I think; but this new look is more 'bold'

Maybe they just increased the depth of the engraving.

I've also noticed this.

Bringing out the dillo collection and looking at it under some magnification, the Christmas '09 and Scott Brown dillos are laser etched.  You can see the miniscule dimples from each hit of the laser.

The Ft. Hood and other earlier ones are silkscreened as you can see the fuzzier ends of the screen.

LaRue Staff,

If I break the tail off of a GEN 1 dillo can you replace it with a GEN 2....

If I'm not mistaken, Mark posted not too long ago that they got a new high dollar laser engraver. The dillo I just got seemed far too crisp to be screening. And the "ink" looked very metalic, as if the anodizing color had be burned out.

Ya, I do recall seeing something along that line.

I brought out the big magnifier and you can see the individual shots of the laser giving it a pockmarked appearance and there is an ever so slight heat wave on the coating surrounding the area.  Unfortunately I can't take photos of t to show.

that 'heat wave' on the coating area can be seen in my last photo posted above.

now, not be argumentative, and especially since I don 't know, is everybody in agreement and CERTAIN that earlier dillos were silkscreened?

i agree modern ones are laser etched-without a doubt.

Being that I used to print years ago I can 100% confirm that they are screenprinted.
