| I'm jumping from being a bolt gun only guy, straight into an OBR. I've read online that LaRue has given their barrel life as around 10,000 rounds. Anyone have personal experience close to this? I'm heading to a class that advises a ~1,500 round count with my OBR. My inner "bolt gun" soul is not sitting well with that. Do these barrels snicker at that low of a round use? |

A 1500 round count class doesn't sound like one geared towards precision shooting. It just sounds like ballistic masturbation. What course is it, and who is the instructor?
I don't really understand your original question. Are you wondering if people have to rebarrel at 10K rounds? Do you think that is short? Long? |

My original question is: Is an estimated 10,000 round barrel life a good estimation for the OBR? As stated, I'm a bolt gun guy. I'd never expect to get 10,000 rounds out of a bolt gun. Quoted:

Seems like it may be a little high, but not out of order. I would have expected 6-8k rounds from a .308, but OBR barrels aren't exactly factory line Remington 700 barrels, either. I'm sorry, but I don't have any personal experience with the OBR.
So who is the instructor of your class? |

Not really sure what you think a bolt gun should do for barrel life. A 308 should be good for well over 5000 if not more. 1500 rounds sounds a lot like a carbine course, not a precision rifle course. I've read of people using .308 bolt guns for well over 10k rounds. .308 is different than 300wm or .243 running 115 DTAC. If you can afford to shoot out a 308 barrel you can afford to buy a new one. |

That's why running 1200-1500 in a course raised my original question. If OBR's usually last 10,000 rounds or so, it would be a little more acceptable. |

Most good Battle Rifle classes (Vickers, McPhee etc) are generally 500-800 rounds. 1500 rounds of .308 is a shit load of shooting and I can't see how much time could be spent on true precision work (which is where I think the OBR excels) not to mention your eyes would be fried and I'd bet you'd be starting to flinch. I sure as fuck wouldn't be humping my 18" OBR at that class. It would be a SCAR 17 kinda weekend for that kinda class.

My last full training weekend was 500 rounds of .308 & .300 wsm. That was a "character building" experience. 500 rounds of .300wsm sounds like a shoulder wrecking experience I was going to say a "wallet thinning experience," but you're certainly not wrong. |
