Sorry if this is common knowledge for everyone else, but what is the build time (once the order is placed) for an OBR 5.56 20"?  I have just decided, after much study, to get that as my next rifle.  I have a hog hunt coming up after the first of the year, and I would like to use it then.

To the LaRue guys:  I have studied what was out there and believe my money will be best spent with you.  Not rich by any stretch of the imagination, but when I spend my money, it has to count.  I am looking forward to being a customer of yours.

Uh, ok, let me verify your answer with my magic Ouija board.

Yep, 87 days.

From what Ive seen on the ones coming through our shop, and the one I ordered for myself I would plan on 3 weeks and be really happy when it comes in 2 weeks.  The average has been around 2 weeks. You should have it in plenty of time for your hog hunt.

I placed my OBR 556 20" order on Nov 10th and was told 3-5 weeks and 4-6 weeks at various points in the ordering conversation.

Hoping that's overly conservative or else the new rifle is likely to arrive as my wife goes into the hospital for some follow-on surgery. I'd have a less-than-succesful conversation explaining my absence from the hospital!

That's a way better answer than the Ouija board gave me.  Thanks!

Ok, one last question before I order an OBR 556 later this week. I will apologize before asking it, but I did perform a search and came up empty.

Most everyone who has an OBR 556 has an optical sight on it and there are many comments about the accuracy they have achieved with it.  What about the accuracy the rifle can get with th BUIS?  I have not been able to find a post or thread with the results of bench shooting with iron sights.  The reason why this is important is that back in the day when I was in the infantry as an enlisted man and then as an infantry officer, I was a fair shot with both the A1 and the A2.  I did not trust optics, as i had no issues hitting what I was aiming for with iron sights.  Now my eyes are older and I will have to rely on a scope,  but dang it would be nice to have something that might enable me to squeeze out one more sub MOA group at an extended distance.

How well can you shoot yours using the BUIS?

Thanks.

I don't have an OBR 5.56 but I do have an OBR 7.62 and a Stealth 5.56. How accurate are they with irons? They're as accurate as I can shoot them. I ran the OBR 7.62 in a fun match this past weekend with just the BUIS and didn't have a problem hitting targets at 100 yards standing, kneeling, and prone. Shooting clay pigeons (on the ground of course) at 100 yards was easy with irons too. I haven't tried shooting groups with irons though.

Pick up a match 22 rifle to shoot small bore matches or a precision air rifle.  After a season or two of match shooting you will be able to run irons on an OBR and get good groups.
