In my unit we use PEQ-15's and I want to use the offset light mount. The PEQ-15 is on the top rail and I want to run the light above the barrel. Since it hangs over the sides of the top rail will the light mount clear it? I hope I explained it well enough. I can see it in my head, just can't write it out.
If you're suggesting placing the mount on the right or left side of the rail in line with the laser unit, I don't think it's going to clear. You will probably have to position the mount on the side of the rail in front of the laser. That being said, since the laser extends (or hangs as you say) beyond the rail I don't know if you'd run into interference with the beam. I am not familiar with such units and don't know where the laser aperture is located. You would know better than I.

'Preciate the advice. Since LaRue has their 30 day "you're not happy, we're not happy" guarantee, I might just pick one up to see if it works. If I run the light all the way forward and move the PEQ-15 back some it should work. I think that's going to be the way to go. If it's a carbine length rail, e.g. 7" then it might be a squeeze. I almost positive that a 9" rail will give you the clearance you need. |
This is a standard issue M4. Even though our weapons have M68's and the PEQ-15's, we are not required to leave them on. As long as you maintain accountability of the equipment the unit doesnt care if you carry it around or not. So, I'll probably dump it, since I have no use for it, and run the light.
I don't really see how the weapon profile could be narrowed. The way the rings sit in the mount should be any different between the offset and the inline mount. The offset mount just has a larger surface area on the mounting plate, hence the offset position. A quick phone call to LaRue would be the way to go. They have always been extremely helpful and cordial on the phone.
I used to run the offset mount on the left rail and PEQ-15 on the top of a 12" rail. I can't remember if the light mount would fit right next to the PEQ because I placed it slightly forward. I've since moved the PEQ to the right side rail because the offset mount blocked part of my flood beam. It wasn't too bad for medium to long range when I had the flood dialed in tighter, but switching to wide flood for close work blocked a large portion of the beam.
