What purpose does the oil port serve? Aid during the initial mounting?

You don't need to oil it before you mount it. Over time, put a drop in there, but I wouldn't worry a whole lot about it seizing up or anything.

didnt oil mine when i mounted my glass on the OBR, but its only been on bout 6 weeks with 60-80 rounds thru her,, think next inspection, i should add a drop to each hole, cant hurt???????? if ya got it use it, ,, i would think????

Its were you put the oil to keep the rifle cool while on full auto
