I have a Bushmaster M4 type 14.5 inch barrel, and I'm looking to convert it to the piston system.
CMMG's conversion kit looks good and the price isn't too bad compared to others. I've never owned anything by CMMG but I hear it's good stuff. It CMMG site says some minor gunsmithing requred though. I'm fairly familar with the M4 and maintence and disassembly from a Military point of view. The most I've done on my AR on my own was swap out the barrel. Does this kit require any specfic tools that complicate home assembly? |
| Ease of installation, the pin-on is really designed to be used a factory build setup, it requires drilling the block and the barrel much like a FSB. The clamp-on block just drops on and tightens down its real easy, and surprisingly secure we have clamp-on setups with thousands of full-auto rounds on them with out loosening. |

So the pin on doesn't sit where the FS used to be? I replaced my AR's old factory barrel with a standard M4 profile barrel 14.5 inch barrel from Bushmaster.
The barrel has slots with the FS pins to so are those not the holes used by the pin on system? I prefer a pin on system. |

There is not absolute standard in the locations of FSB Pins, basiclly the FSB and barrel are drilled together. You could use your existing pin location on the barrel but its going to take a bit a gunsmithing. I really would suggest a clamp-on block for for barrels that have already been drilled for FSB pins. |

I was checking both systems on the website again and I noticed something.
The pin on says it's for a carbine length and the clamp on for a mid length. My AR is definitely a carbine ... I do not have a mid length. Now I'm confused again lol. Will the the clamp on fit a carbine? |

The clamp on version for a carbine is VERY good to go. We have been abusing the hell out of one for over a year now.
It has been on several barrels and is only fired Full Auto on our M16. The piston has not had a failure. You will find many parts that will fail under this type of use, but the piston keeps going. |

Will that work on a carbine type AR though? That's what's throwing me off now. I just don't want to buy the wrong system. |

I believe they offer it in carbine length and Mid length. The on e that we have been abusing is a carbine length. If you are having issues finding it on the site why not just give them a call? Yeah I'll have to give them a call because I'm not finding it on the site. Thanks though! If I can get a carbine length clamp on that is what I'll be going with then. |
