Built myself an AR pistol and bought a used Larue 7.0 rail.  Came with all the pieces, and it's a very nice rail, extremely well built.

When I hand tighten the barrel nut, the whole lines up perfect the the hole for the gas tube with very little torque.  When I torque it, it only moves about a third of a whole and I can't line up the gas tube.  It won't go any further.  I could put a ton more torque on it and maybe move it but that might damage my upper.

What do I do?  Is there a spacer I can buy?  It's tight and together but I'm obviously not going to fire it until I get some advice here on my next move.

Thanks for any possible advice.

Not really an issue with rail, but rather the timing of the barrel nut.  You could try another to see how it indexes, you could true the face of the upper or your could buy a barrel shim kit. How much are you torquing it now - 40lbs - 100lbs?

a shim kit is what you need

How do you have the upper secured and what torque value are you putting on the nut?

I seen this tool in a james yeager vid seems to be a good tool.
Keeps your upper from being damaged from tightning nut

use this :

To do this:

Like this, but only a very small amount at a time until you can torque to spec.....and hit the gas tube hole just right.:

Id avoid shims personally.

That's a good tool.

I've had to torque beyond 80 ft lb on Larue rail installation a couple times.  I don't like doing that to start with but the bev block makes me more comfortable with it.  Ideally I would face the receiver just enough to bring the required torque down.

Sorry for the delay, got it installed today at lunch.

I was using a regular barrel wrench and "eyeballing" it for torque.  It wasn't giving me enough leverage so I got a torque wrench and it still put up a fight but it went to the next hole and lined up fine.

Thanks for all the answers and advice.  Again, this rail is an extremely nice product and there was nothing wrong with it, just me being stupid.

Thanks again,

Ian
