Has anyone considered having there barrel dimpled?

I was thinking about having it done on my hopefully sooner rather than later 5.56 and with the larue barrel profile could probably get it much closer to 7lbs.

What y'all think?

Also still waiting to here back from larue on warranty issues with this.

Whats the magic sauce do?  Weight Savings, More Cooling area, looks???

I have seen a few that looked pretty cool...  Dunno about performance or longevity of the barrel though (as in if it added or subtracted or no change)..

smullen:  weight savings could be anywhere from 6-10oz depending on how crazy you go.  It does offer more cooling area, but that doesnt really matter to me.

Not really worried about it affecting barrel longevity cause to me its more about the steel, chamber, basically this would only affect the outside.

My understanding is from talking to a smith thats really reputable and that I completely trust (he's wouldn't actually doing the work, waiting to here
back from the smith who would be doing it to see what he thinks).  That with a well made barrel being worked on by someone who knows what
there doing I shouldn't see any lose in accuracy or barrel life.

Oh and It looks BadAss to me.

Do you have a drill press?

Just kidding. It's kind of a cool idea, but not my thing. At that point, I'd probably just get a PredatAR and ignore the slight performance gain from the heavier barrel and dimpling.

I would like to see this on a PredatOBR. DImples seem like a KAC thing.

I'm not going to lie, I thought about doing the KAC style dimpling for a PredatOBR whenever I got enough money saved up to buy one.

My main thing is I already have a predatAR and it's great.  However when running it with
longer strings of fire with an m4-2000 hanging of the end I do start to notice more  poi
Shift than I would like (mind you this is only with the suppressor on).

So with the dimpling I get a rifle closer to the weight of my predatAR and with pst,  and will be
Able to handle suppressor weight better.  Also dimpling/fluting tends to make barrels even
more rigid.

At this point I'm thinking I'll see what larue says about warranty.  If they say I'm good to go
then most likely why not.

Kind off the topic, but has anyone Cerakoted their rifle?  Got any pics?  I'm thing about having my OBR 5.56 Cerakoted.  Are there any cons to getting this done?

OH Joy lots of little places that are hard to clean and rust can form –– I'll Pass

Yep rust that is actually my main concern.  That's why I'm talking to 2 different people that have seen/done it
all when it comes to the AR platform.  Actually brought this up in the last email I sent, and I'm still waiting for response.

I have a KAC/Magpul special edition SR15 with factory dimpling. I LOVE the look. No issues with rust.

How much would rust be a problem with a coated stainless steel barrel?
