Are there any price increases coming in the new year? I want to order a rifle but am a little short on cash this month.
Thanks |
| Not to be one screaming "The sky is Falling!" but I would buy now if possible. The DPMS SASS that I had a deposit on was sold for $3K (the original price was $1800.) Now I'm back to waiting 12 plus months. I did luck out and find a traded LAR-8 308 Mid Length for $1200. GunBroker.com for the NIB LAR-8 308 Mid Length is starting the bid $1899 and the buy it now price is $2299. As long as there are people that are willing to pay these crazy prices good luck finding/getting the product anytime soon. Did I mention good luck on your order since there are people that placed their orders over a year ago and are still waiting? |

Isn't the point of the deposit to hold the item for you? If the dealer sold it out from under you like that I wouldn't deal with him/them any more. |
| The gun shop had ordered two rifles from it's distributor and I had put a deposit on it (before the election the ETA on delivery was 1-2 months.) It was not ordered directly from DPMS. When the distributor got the rifles in (after the election) the rifles were sold to the highest bidder. The gun shop wasn't going to loose money on it. Now it has to be ordered directly from DPMS and I wait in line 12 plus months like everyone else. I agree that the price gouging stinks. |

I can wait the 10 to 12 weeks the Rock River Arms web site says is the lead time, I am just wondering if they are going to raise their prices in the near future. The demand for RRA products is so high I would use that as an estimate. RRA had to temporarily suspend new orders of 1911 pistols because of "backlog of existing orders coupled with our inability to maintain a constant supply of high quality components." I had a hard time trying to find good FAL magazines and still have not found a DD rail. I would hope that the panic buying will slow down sometime soon and prices go back to normal. If not then manufacturers (like RRA) will have to adjust to the market to get components. |

Since I'm assuming that they gave you a receipt for your deposit, I'd file a claim with the the BBB and local state attorney general. A deposit in advance for an item on order is considered a partial payment for the item, with the remainder due on delivery. Just because the store can get a higher price for the item when it arrives doesn't mean that they can sell it out from under you. They took your money, that means they had a binding contract with you to sell you that rifle. A good presentation in small claims court would probably get you a new rifle immediately at the pre-election price, plus damages at least equal to their "extra" profit margin. -Frank |
| Sorry I wasn't clear. The Gun Shop NEVER received the DPMS. They had ordered 2 in advance and after the election the distributor decided to put the rifles up to the highest bidder. The gun shop wasn't going to pay $3K for a rifle (that the highest bidder paid) and then turn around and sell it to me for the $1800 that we agreed upon. The distributor is the price gouger. The Gun Shop agreed to order straight from the factory now knowing that orders are now 12 plus months from the manufacturer. I started thinking about buying back in January 2008 but procrastinated. Before the election you could find the rifle in a couple of months. I was just trying to help the topic that I don't think prices are going to get any lower and that the wait is only going to get longer. |
