Jeff,

I received my CMMG 16" Middy Upper today that I had ordered through Aim Surplus.  I was a smiling guy until I realized I couldn't shut the Ejection Port Dust Cover.  The spring loaded nipple works fine, but the milling on the actual upper that keeps it shut isn't done to spec.  It needs a little more milling to make it shut and work properly.  In fact, I can press the hell out of it and it wont snap shut.

So, I called AIM and they said to send it back and wait for a new one to come in.  (I laughed)  Or, I could call CMMG and see if they could fix it.  Well, I called you guys and left a message with customer service, but haven't gotten a return call.

What should I do here?

Thanks in advance for your attention.

EDIT:   Just got a call from CMMG.  I believe a rubber mallet and a few cycles will do the trick.   Sorry for the newbie question.  Learning as this is my first AR.

I have had similar problems with a few uppers lately. Maybe in the mad rush to turn out pats the suppliers are not doing as well as they could.

I have found that most of these get better with age. Maybe they just have sharp corners on them and it makes it a bit more difficult to snap that ball over that lip. I have never considered sending one back. Normally its a quick and easy task to just smooth it out and let it break in. No worries.

Good luck with yours.

My friend got one that was pretty tough... I just forced it closed... And it is getting easier.

I wouldn't have sent it back...

Rubber Mallet did the trick.  It's tight, but seems to be getting easier.  Not sending back.

That's how mine is and it came to me with the detent assembly on the ejection port door partially ripped out of the door itself.  I just emailed CMMG and told them I needed a new door assembly and they said they would ship it out.  Even once I replace the door it probably will still be tight but I'm sure it will wear in.
