| I recently built a kit and am having trouble. It seemed just fine as I have put about 300 rounds into paper with it this week. Today after about 100 rounds it would let me charge the first round into it... pull trigger... BLAM... guns cycles with new round in chamber but the hammer did not cock back into firing position. Pull charging handle ejecting round let it slam shut...BLAM...next round does the same thing hammer not cocked. Every round I charge shoots every round gun cycles does not. Rounds that dont fire are ejected by me and all have a very light firing pin dent on primer I beilieve from the hammer following the bolt back into position. I can tell the rear of the firing pin is getting trashed from the hammer rubbing on it as the gun cycles back and then forward but the hammer does not stay down in position to fire and grinds against it as it wants to stand up in fired position. |

continued...... SOOO I havent had time to get in there and have a look around. I looked over the upper but then on my way home I thought the whole thing over and relized it must be in the lower. The shell ejects fine from the round that fired. Some input would be great. Thanks Lee |

Hmm that's a tough one from the description. I would normally say its may be the disconnector spring got interchanged with the bolt catch spring, but since it worked fine for the first 300 rounds, that makes me scratch my head. I'd check the gas rings on the bolt to see if they're lined up. If they're fine I'd check the gas tube to see if its clogged, then check the gas hole for obstructions. You can remove the gas tube by knocking out the roll pin in the sight tower, pulling the tube back into the upper, rotate it to the side then pushing it forward. If you need to check the gas hole, you can remove the sight tower by knocking out the two pins and tap the tower forward. You can clean the hole by taking a drill bit (approximately the same size as the hole) and insert it into the hole and roll it around with your fingers. This should take care of the problem, I believe that the bolt is coming back far enough to extract and eject, but not reset the hammer. This generally doesn't happen, but some types of ammo burns dirtier than others, and you may have had a bad batch. Give that list a try and if its still giving you problems give us a call. |

I discovered that I was wrong about the problem. I fire and when the bolt cycles the hammer gets hung up on the dissconnector upper hook (second stage?) Maybe you were right about the spring. If they are switched then the dissconnector is being pushed to far forward and catching the hammer - right? The gun cycles fine and I have used three different types of ammo so I think its the springs. I will switch them tomarrow. Lee |
