I recently got a 2.5-10x32 PST MOA for my rifle. I like the optic quite a bit, and so far has been used pretty well.
I was zeroing my rifle today and had some strange (possible) problems. I'm sure there's a solid chance of user error in here, so I just wanted to double check. First off, I was using shit ammo (I can't get my hands on anything quality right now), so that might play a small part. I was shooting at a 25 meter target, at 25 meters exactly, and my first 9 shots were pretty tight. I was okay with the grouping since it was crap ammo, but I wanted it down one box. I turned the elevation down 4 clicks, shot 3 rounds,....no real change. Turn another 4 clicks, shot 3 rounds,....no real change.
I then moved down to the silhouette target, and my shots were all the hell over the place. I was on sand bags, with no wind. I'm not an incredible shot, but I know I'm MUCH better than that silhouetter target. I adjusted my dials back into the original settings, and my shots started to get tighter again.
I decided I'd set my zero stop to where it is, wait to get ahold of some high quality ammo, then do fine adjustments and re-set my zero stop. After watching this video, I figured it'd be easy enough to follow along. I set my shims nicely in there and reset my set screws. After testing the knobs, I'm able to make a full rotation + and extra 12 clicks. This seems somewhat pointless since I could accidentally overturn my zero and end up a full rotation low. Is there something I somehow missed? Or is this normal? |
| I would check a couple things- torque specs. Overtightening of the rings is a common issue that causes erratic groups. I would have the ring screws (the ones that wrap around the tube of the scope) no tighter than 15-18 inch pounds. In the case of an AR15, 15 inch pounds should be plenty tight. With the zero stop setting, there does not appear to be enough shims in the pack that you are using to properly set the zero stop. This sometimes happens. We can send you another pack. If you have any other questions or if there's anything we can do to explain this better, please give us a call at 800-426-0048. Ext 5 will get your questions answered about the accuracy issues. Ext. 4 will get you another pack of shims. Thank you for choosing Vortex Optics. |

Thanks for the reply. Over-torqued screws never even dawned on me as a possible problem. I'll call tomorrow about the shims.
Also, now I know my money was well spent. I can definitely see myself buying another Vortex someday. Very happy with my product and wonderful customer service. |
