I have already removed the lever and it's hardware, but I'm left with some kind of ring, inset in the body of the mount.  Does this ring come out?

I figured I should ask before I start trying to beat it out.  It apears to have some sort of lubricant between the ring and the mount body.

Hit it with your purse

If it doesn't pop out easily it's probably pressed in there with a pretty significant force and wont come out.

my heaviest purse might damage the mount

Seriously though, I'd just like to know if I need it removed for the cerakote to go on right and for the mount to function correctly after the cerakote has been applied.

Your going to loose repeatability if there is anything between the bearing surfaces (i.e. paint). But if the insert is pressed in there you'll loose repeatability if you don't press it back in there.  So you're screwed if you do screwed if you don't I think.

I'm not an engineer and this is free opinions on the internet FWIW

oh great, by removing the lever, you've opened up a demonic gateway to hell.  Thanks a lot!

Should I just tape off the inset ring?

If you'd like.  I didn't.  Here is my project.  I used Aervoe and have experienced no issues with removal and maintaining zero.  I have no idea what the thickness comparison would be between the two "paints".

Nice work!

I'm going to attempt to tape it off, but if it doesn't work, I'm glad to know that it's no biggie.

I'm just waiting for my 7.62 tOBR to come in, then it will be coated with a LT 271, LT272, LT104, and all the fixins.  I'll start a new thread with the whole process from start to finish.

The new tOBR will be coated in RAL8000.  The idea is to match the finish of my imaginary Schmidt & Bender (someday I'm gonna have that scope )

Thank you!  I really should do an updated thread with scope and targets.  It shoots as nice as it looks.

Masking certainly won't hurt anything.  That sounds like a project I'd be interested in hearing about!
