| If I get a scope and mount it on the A4 flat top will the front sight base get in the way of my optics (obstruct the view)? |
|
Not normally, particularly with 3x and more powerful scopes. The focal point of the optic is well beyond thefront sight housing, and tends to either make it disappear entirely or "ghost" theimage to the pointthat while it still may be there, it doesn't get in the way. Quickest way I know of to illustrate the concept is for you to sit about four feet from your computer and hold your thimb vertically about a foot in front of your face, while still looking at your monitor. While your thumb is there, you're generally focused well past it and reading your screen through/around/pst your thumb. Steve/RRA |

WOW that works. I was thinking a 4-12 or a 6-18 vari x2 leupold for this upper. Any thoughts? I am going to order this upper from legal transfers. he said approx 3 weeks if RRA drops ships to me. He is out of stock on this. Does RRA have them in stock? NMA4.. Thanks |

We build to order, so "in-stock anything" is minimal. Three weeks is pushing it, but no unrealistic. As for the scopes, don't forget the length of the upper. Longer scopes will often require a Scout Mount as the scope's turret is often way forward once the proper eye relief is established, so you need both the rise and forward rail length to mountthe optic properly. BTW Steve, I appreciate the way RRA does business this way, building to order. Being able to get a rifle from the factory configured how I want it, a great reputation for tight tolerances and accuracy, and great factory trigger pull are the 3 big reasons I have bought and ordered 4 RRA rifles in the last 5 months. You're killing me financially though, thank goodness you don't have a 6.5 Grendel in the catalogue! |
| I have 2 RRA uppers on bushy lowers and I am well satisfied. This is going to be my 3rd. I have a colt that I like also but colt has lots of issues with AR's. pin size transition model (no lug) block in the receiver. All that gets real old quickly. never mind the price is high. I am not saying colt is bad just gets to be a pain getting what you want. |

I bought an A4 kit from Legal Transfers a while back. Fit a little tight to the RRA lower I got at first. Now it fits nicely! Just took about 200 rounds an a nice layer of Rem oil. I use the Armalite one piece mount with my 4-12x 40mm Leupold. Works nicely and rezeros every time. Steve probably has something better though! Can't say enough about Legal Transfers and RRA. They are top notch! |

The 40L is about the lowest mounting that you'll find, with the possible exception of the Troy...I haven't had one in handlong enough to measure it. A lot depends on how and where you've got the scope mounted. One slot forward or backwards on a 1913 rail can make a big difference in what accessories will go with what other accessories. In this case, it's the rear bell clearing the BUIS. Steve/RRA |

The Scout mount mounts to (and covers) the A4 uper receiver, and both raises anything mounted to it and, because the scout rail also extends forward of the receiver, allows about three extra inches of rail to mount an optic to. You'll still need rings of some sort for the scope, but generally lower than you would need otherwise if just trying to mount it to the receiver to attain proper height. Steve/RRA |
| I can't answer that, but if it can, the height will probably put the optic much too high. I am using the rail with Burris low rings on a flat top receiver and for me this combo places the center of the scope at just the right elevation for a good cheek position on the stock.... I tried using a Wilson Combat 1 piece ring mount on the rail and I thought it was way too high. |

The EOP and the Scout Mount are largely mutually exclusive. The Scout mount is designed around the A4 upper receiver, and doesn't work well in conjunction with the EOP. The EOP receiver has a pretty specific purpose, and is more limited than the A4 platform because of its design. If you havea scope that fits it properly, it's a great rig,and you can actually mountthe scope so that the rear bell is actually lower than the receiver's rail (if required). Putting anything on top of it , including high rings, generally tends to make it too high for most shooters to get a comfortable cheekweld. Steve/RRA |
