Hello, I recently purchased an A-4 Standard with a 20" bead blasted stainless barrel. I am hoping to "build" it into a NM style rifle. The shop I bought the rifle from says it is factory new. On the RRA website there is no option for adding a bead blasted stainless barrel to a standard A-4. Do you think this rifle is factory new, or is the store swapping parts and listing it as factory new? Also, I just ordered a NM carry handle with 1/4x1/4 adjustments and an .040 aperature. I will be free floating the barrel shortly. Is there any reason why I can't expect MOA accuracy from this setup? What are the differences between the standard A-4 and the NM A-4? Thanks, Steve |

Bead blasting the bbl is a standard option on stainless bbls...just has to be ordered that way, and there's a slight increase in cost to the customer. "Free floating" a rifle once it has been built is far easier said than done. To go the full route of creating an NM A4 out of what you've got could entail rebarreling, as it uses a completely different front sight housing than a Std A4 (at the very least, you'll have to do some milling/grinding to get rid of the swivel ears from it to get the clearance for the swivel ears that are part of the free float sleeve). The sight assy itself will have to be removed from the bbl, and then the barrel itself will also have to be removed from the receiver because the sleeve will have to go on, and with it it's own barrel nut assy. You'll also use a different gas tube (comes with the sleeve kit) that fits the sleeve better. You'll also want the NM front sight post. As is, you should (ammo and shooter doing their part) beable to get 1MOA with the set up you have. Steve/RRA |
| I picked up this rifle for $800 without a carry handle. My plan is to put a YHM free float tube on her and keep the A-2 front sight gas block but with a KNS tactical crosshair for better accuracy. I won't be doing any competitions, I just want good accuracy with open sights. Will I run into any major roadblocks? This is my first AR rifle, I hope I made a good choice. |

Again, just bbl and gas system removal/reinstallation issues associated with switching to the free float tube. I would suggest seeking help from someone in your area with the right tools and some experience, or considering having it done for you. It sounds easy, and really isn't too bad if you know what you're doing and have the right tools, but without either the experience or tools, it can be a real headache. Steve/RRA |
