I have heard some negativity throughout the various AR boards about some older RRA lowers being out of spec. Can anyone provide some information about this? Perhaps a serial number range? Is there even any truth to these rumors?
I have an older style RRA stripped lower that I am getting ready to use as a base for an expensive rifle and some tips on what to look for would be greatly appreciated. I purchased it in 2002 and it has the older style logo that looks like this: ROCK ........RIVER ...............ARMS Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks |

We did have a batch that did have some out-of-location magwells (displaced forward in machining) in what has proven to be a small fraction of the lowers from that batch. This could casue an issue with fully seating 20rd mags, or of pin holes that don't line up correctly due to increased distance between them. We're dealing with each lower on a case-by-case warranty basis, and would need to have the lower returned to RRA (on a return authorization) for evaluation before any corrective action can be taken.
Occasionally, tolerance stacking both with products of other manufacturers and our own can be an issue. That isn't rally an out of spec situation, but one where the specs used allow for an isue to occur by providing an opportunity for soem part sinterference because of the tolerances on a combination of parts when used together and being at the extremes of the tolerance range (ie an upper receiver that has critical measure ments at the top of the tolerance ranges allowed in the specs being mated to a lower receiver that has all of it's tolerances at teh smaller end of their allowed range). That can occur in machined products of all sorts, from all manufacturers. Steve/RRA |

Steve,
Were these issues more recent? Or is my lower from the time frame that there were problems? (2001-2002). I am certainly not trying to bash RRA or make a mountain out of a mole hill, I am really just curious. Thanks! ETA: It does not help any when LPK's are so darn difficult to find. Otherwise, I would just build the darn thing up and see for myself. |
