I was just about ready to order a Bushnell laser range finder the model 1000 with a reflective range of 1500 yards but I decided to hit a local shop to look at one first hand and the guy behind the counter slammed the Bushnell line as being inaccurate and having reliability problems.  He immediately started pushing the Leica brand and to a lesser extent the Nikon.  How do you think the three compare?  I definitely need one that will work to 800 plus yards and a full thousand or more would be nice.  I have recently started doing some long range precision shooting and I have a farmer who lets me use some large fields for practice and varmint hunting but I do not have access to a range with predetemined posted distances.

While I haven't yet had a chance to use one of the new 1200 LRFs, we have an 800 LRF and it is the best of all you listed IMHO.

My next spare $400 will go to get one of the new ones.

I have a Bushnell 1000y model.

It works well and seems rugged.  It uses 9v batts, and is simple to use.

At every range I've used it, the 100y line lases at 100 give or take a single yard, and I don't lase from the yellow line.  I really don't know how else to test it, and would like to know how he determined they are not accurate.

Leica is supposed to be excellent, and their 1200y has my eye, but mine works and I suspect the local guy had what he was pushing and didn't have Bushnell in stock.

All of the units you mention have an accuracy of + or - 1 yard.  The reason for this is because they only measure in yards and are programed to round up.  The Leica is by far the best rangefinder made, but there is nothing wrong with the Bushnell or Nikon.  For what you want to do I would highly recommend the Leica 1200 also, but would have no problem using the Bushnell 1000.
