I recently bought a Colt (pre-ban). It is a Sporter lightweight, with an A2 stock and FSB with no bayo lug...) I want to swap the stock for a period correct collapsible stock (plastic butt, 4 position, I think) and swap the neutered FSB with no bayo lug for one WITH. In keeping with my collector mentality, though, I want to keep this one pure Colt, my other rifles, (they are HP competition rifles which basically are muts with WOA uppers and or Rock River and such), so I know where to find "parts", and good ones at that, but I specifically want to know where to buy "COLT" parts. I know I can find factory Colt parts for the buttstock at Brownells, but cannot find a place for a true Colt FSB. Perhaps I am just not sure where to look, please let me know a good dependable place that sells "Colt" branded parts...
THanks!!!

Swapping FSBs is not just swapping parts.

Thanks. It is not a problem for me to do it, I am quite capable of handling the job, just wanted a recommendation on the "where" to get the parts, or where you folks would recommend sending me... so that I was sure they were Colt manufactured parts... thanks for the warning, though, I think.

Thanks Rumble for the link, to Specialized Armament... I am going to call them today...

are you a machinist or something? because  swapping  FSB is a pretty big deal. most guys just buy a complete barrel and swap the whole barrel.

Well, I have done it only on my HP match barrels, so perhaps it may make a trip to my match rifle 'smith... those are pretty easy, though... What would I need to be a machinist for?
(Suddenly feeling like I shouldn't have asked...)

skeet,

You might already know this but installing a different FSB is a challenge.  The chance that the pin holes in the barrel will line up with the holes in the new  FSB is about zero.  You can find FSB's that have not been drilled yet but that means your going to have to drill them in line with the ones already on the barrel.  You'll need a jig or other nice set up to do this.  Not really worth the hassle in my opinion.

Just trying to help as learned the hard way.

Thanks for the help, perhaps the neutered one will be just fine if it's gonna be a headache and or expensive... I haven't had a need for any sort of bayonetting in the past, so I can't really see the need for it, I just figgered since it is a pre-ban and all... might as well have the lug... Thanks for the tips tho.
(This is probably also why I can't find any Colt FSB's listed anywhere, just the stuff that I have used and installed on Service Rifle Competition rifles.)

Send it to ADCO, they weld the barrel up and then install the new FSB.

Swapping just the front sight base on this will turn your $375 barrel into a $75 barrel.

You need to replace the entire barrel with a 6520 barrel.

I would forget the bayonet lug, this rifle cannot fit a bayonet anyway with a 16" barrel.

No you aren't.

If you were, you wouldn't be asking the questions you are asking.

Must you always be a prick?

That is how they replace a FSB

Putting weld on a barrel ruins the heat treatment and can cause a dangerous situation for the shooter.

Yet again, I find another thread in this Forum that reminds me of GD. This is considered a Tech Forum for this site. This kind of BS is going to end one way or the other.

Since I've just started watching this forum, I haven't identified the true trouble makers, but it won't take long. If you can't manage to behave in this forum, you will be removed from it, or the site.

Please take this as the last warning on this issue, as I'm not going to give anymore.

OK, I am indeed sorry I asked now. Really. Thanks mod (VA-gunnut) for stepping in. Indeed I know only about my competition rifles, (which I have a good bit of experience with assembling/disassembling, and I have an excellent smith who attends to my rifles when the project exceeds my knowledge/skill)... I thought it would be simple like I have experienced before...
But indeed, I am not very knowledgable about the Colts and wanted to keep this one as pure Colt as part of my collection, which is why I came for some information from those who know, and not to be belittled. I can honestly say thanks from my heart to those who helped me honestly, and of course we could all do without the childish attitude on the other posts, though. (including the PMs and such)...

dont feel  bad about it. a  competition  gun is just made a lot differnt then the milspec FSB,  most ( including my ) high power ARs have a screw on clamp style FSB, the  colts  have the gasblock/FSB  added then drilled and pinned all at once.   If you never fooled with swapping them you wouldnt know.
