I've been trying to remove a SF break from my Predatobr for a while now. I've heated it, boiled it in water (I read that on a old thread here) and tried plain old muscle. Nothing will get it to budge. I have the barrel locked in a vice but it moves slightly. Would it be safe and no harm to accuracy to put the upper in a vice block with the barrel attached? I know everything is a tight fit and I doubt it would but wanted to check before I started torquing on a 3K gun.

If it was attached using the included "Rocksett", you need to let it soak in Water for 24 hours.

Everyone thinks you need to heat it, but it resists heat by design.

Soak it in Water for 24 hours and it will wrench right off - easily.

You can also try something like a geissele reaction rod

First opportunity I've had to say this so have you tried hitting it with your purse

But seriously you aren't trying to get one off of a 14.5" are you?

This has been discussed before.  You need to call the shop and ask what they used to install the brake.  Both my OBR's with SF brakes had green lock tite used.  For that, you need to heat the threaded area of the brake with a benzomatic torch.  Work slowly around the brake so that you do not heat in just one area.  It takes about 20 seconds if i recall.  You should have the barrel in a vise, or a magazine block or something to stabilize the assembly.  Even after heating it takes a little effort.

Thanks guys. I'm going to give Larue a call tomorrow to find out what type of Locktite/Rockset was used. I didn't even know there was a green locktite.

Thanks for the help and feedback.

Pull the barrel out of your upper and put in in a barrel vise.  The brake will come right off.  I pulled mine off to remove the barrel nut.  Also, turn the barrel to the side so as not to damage the gas tube.

Thats a big ol barrel! I did try a barrel vise but the barrel rotated slightly so I stopped before I did damage the gas tube. I was going to try just a vice block for uppers but I wasn't sure if It would hurt the barrel fitting or now. I've removed several breaks/flash hiders and this thing feels like it was put on by superman.

Be careful not to break your brake...
