Looks like a sweet optic.  Anyone taken one out and try to abuse it?   Or at least spend a whole day at the range?

They're not shipping until April or May, per Sam @ Vortex.

We've done our own testing at the range with it and it's great! The illumination is very bright in this model and it's very well built.

I can't wait to get them out on the market. Rangar is correct, it will be around April or May, barring any unforeseen delays.

Not at this time. It's my understanding that there are some patent issues and we don't want to infringe on anybody, so for now I would have to suggest the LaRue flip mount.

No, both the SPARC and StrikeFire are getting updated power switches. The button is now recessed into the side more. It no longer accidentally turns on while in the rifle case. In addition, to turn it off you must hold the power button for 3 seconds. This helps avoid accidental shut-off.

I haven't ever tried it, but my guess is that it won't work because the field of view would be so small as to be unusable. I will test it and let you know.

I had my Poe Boy setup behind my issued Comp M4 and it took a beating in Afghanistan!

And it's still as good as the day I bought it.

It uses a CR2354 battery, which is a coin type battery. Basically a higher capacity version of the CR2032 that is commonly used in many illuminated riflescopes. The life is 120 hours on the highest setting and over 4000 hours on the lowest setting.

I know that we're going to be stocking them in bulk. I'm not sure of the price yet though.

Keep in mind that the SPARC has a new LED so it is significantly brighter than the red/green StrikeFire. That means in most situations you will not need it at the brightest setting, so I expect in real world use it will last quite a bit longer than 120 hours.

The batteries are $4 at Amazon.com

I'm sure in bulk they will be less.

Honestly, how often will you have it on max setting?  Carry a few extra and you'll be set even in the most extended use environments.  If that isn't your cup of tea, spend the extra $200+ on the Aimpoint micro.

I am very excited about this. I have been out of the loop for a while and was looking for an inexpensive red-dot to play around with since I don't get to the range much. Just the right time too, I should have the funds around April/May. If not it can be a Bday present in July.

Sam,

Could you elaborate on any changes that are going to be made to the Strikefire?  Still using a CR2 battery?  Brighter dot?

Will the updated Strikefire be a phase in, or will it carry a new item number?

Sam - are any of your optics (the new 1-4x24 PST, or the SPARC) going to have a NV setting?  I'm trying to make sure ALL my optics have NV settings in preparation for getting NV goggles.  As much as I love my Aimpoint T-1s and CompM4s, I can't afford to spend $400+ on each and every one which is why I've gravitated towards your SPARC.

Not to steal Sam's thunder, but I took the liberty of copy and pasting this from their website:

SPARC Red Dot

It takes a SPARC to light a fire. The new, compact, daylight-bright SPARC (Speed Point Aiming for Rapid Combat) is packed with performance features and lends itself to a wide variety of firearm platforms—including AR15s, shotguns, and pistols. The modular three-piece base offers four separate mounting heights for user- and weapon-specific customization. Digital rear-facing and side controls for power on/off, dot brightness and night vision mode. Aircraft-grade 6061-T6 aluminum body. Get on target fast with the SPARC.

The SPARC sounds like it will be a good sight. I pre-ordered already.

I would recommend SWFA, since they are a site sponsor here.

And yes, as the previous posted said the SPARC will have an NV mode. The Viper PST 1-4x24 will have a very low illumination setting, but we are still testing it's compatibility with NV. I'll let you know when I have more info. Thanks!

Thank you, Sam - I really, REALLY hope it does have NV settings - I will be looking at getting at least a few, in addition to the PST 4-16 mil/mil FFP scope (which I also hope has NV settings).  Perhaps there may be a way of using a lower voltage battery to approximate NV settings if it doesn't specifically have it?

We're actually working on it right now. I'm just waiting for a sample of some new electronics to test. The new ones will have the brighter illumination on the 5 higher levels (like what was shown at SHOT) and much lower levels of illumination on the lower 5 levels.

Once we get a sample and test it I will let you know.

AWESOME - you guys, honestly, are the best - so damn responsive to what we, the shooters, want.  I just sold 3 high-end optics and am selling a Zeiss (very expensive one) to finance buying 2 SPARCs, 2 1-4x24s, and 2 of the 4-16 PST FFP mil/mil scopes from you when they come out.   Yeah, over $2800 of optics - that's how much I love Vortex.

I really hope these all have NV settings on the illumination - that would just be so kick-ass.

Sam,

Sure, the current red/green StrikeFire will be getting the new power button that is recessed in further so it won't accidentally turn on in the case and it will now have to be held in for about 3sec to shut it off. Everything else is the same and it will have the same item number. This model will be a phase in later this spring or early summer.

We will also be coming out with a red only StrikeFire. This will be a new model number and will have the recessed power button with 3sec shutoff. The red LED used in this StrikeFire is brighter, but with the same battery life as the red/green model. The price is the same. Everything else is the same as the current model.
