Just finished installing a STAR-C over a factory Colt M4A1 barrel and barrel nut assembly. It seems to fit up great, however, there is a gap between the attachment clamp assembly and the upper half at the capscrew screw joint (right and left side) that seems larger than any I've seen in pictures around the net (0.030" + on either side or so) perhaps due to an oversize barrel nut on the OD? The alignment is great. Pictures I've found of the system seem to indicate near zero gap at this joint (although I imagine if taken all the way to zero it wouldn't be tight enough).
At any rate, this gap forced me to slightly enlarge the retaining pin hole in the lower section of rail so I could get the pin to engage. No big deal (just egg shaped the hole slightly, and it all mounts up very tight). Just wondering if this happens sometimes due to variations in barrel nut OD? Like I said, the lockup is solid, alignment is excellent and I believe the screws are as torqued as far as I would be comfortable with and I've tightened a pile of fasteners in my day. They could be tightened more, but the gaps on either side of the barrel nut clamp will not close any further. Thanks in advance for any insight on this. |

Sorry I didn't post sooner - Samson got me fixed up. It is a slightly large on the OD barrel nut (the Colt barrel nut) but the system still works very well.
IMO, the finest FF carbine rail (and I have several other top brands) on the market that doesn't involve removal of the FSB or barrel nut. Thanks Andrew and thanks Samson for such a nice product! |
