Alright guys, I'm at an impasse for my first suppressor and need the great Silencer Shop input!
- 10.5" & 11.5" 5.56 SBRs for main use - 16" or 18" 5.56 for hunting Looking for: - good tone (not high pitched) - 135ish dB on sound suppression - sub 7" (shorter is better) - solid mount, easy on/off (QD preferred, but not required...just not interested in direct thread at this point) Suspects: - Rugged Razor - SiCo Omega - GA MS4D II - GA Recce 5 - AAC M4-2000 (worried about the 51t mount though) I have .30 cal cans in my list because EVERYONE keeps telling me I should buy a multi cal can for my first. I honestly won't shoot it on much else than 5.56. I'd have to rebarrel or see if I can get my Ruger M77 30-.06 threaded in order to use it on something else at this point. Of course I might do a 7.62/.308 at some point in the future, but I'm invested in 5.56 currently. I'm at a loss at this point. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated based on your experience! |

I would recommend that you throw out the 30 cals. If you don't plan on using them for 30 cal then it doesn't really do you any good. Plus the 556 silencers will be short, lighter and quieter in most cases. I would look at the Griffin Recce 5 or M4SDII depending on the mount you like. The Sig 556QD and the AAC M4-2000. Those are the top performing 556 silencers right now. YHM is coming out with the Turbo soon and that will be a good one as well.
Truly you can't go wrong with any of them. Some people complain about the AAC 51T but they have sold more of those that any other mount on the market. If you don't ratchet it on and off 1,000 time in front of your TV playing with it then you won't have an issue. Right now the M4-2000 is probably the best deal going since it is under $600 and we give you a $200 gift card. Also it is the second quietest 556 silencer that we have tested. The Griffins are both great and sound good. Just depends on which mount you want as to which one you pick. The Recce 5 is the quietest 556 we have metered to date. Plus they are giving $200 credit to their site on all cans right now. The Sig 556 QD is a great little silencer that sounds good. We haven't metered it yet but it is going to be in the top 3 for sure. It locks up solid, maybe too solid if you aren't careful. It has wrench flats so you can remove it if it gets stuck. Go with any of these 4 and you will be happy. |

I have heard some complaints about the M4SD line having a lot of rotational play...but that's it. Haven't even looked at the sig, but will do that now! I know the Recce isn't QD, and is s taper mount...but is it a pretty quick on/off? |

Anything that is not direct thread to the barrel is considered a QD.
Both the SIG and Griffin Recce 5 use a taper mount. The SD mount has so rotation in it to keep from carbon binding. However tests have shown multiple times that it does not effect accuracy. Personally I prefer the taper mounts but that is just me. |

Also, are you guys planning to meter the Sig SRD556 QD any time soon? |

There isn't anything to wear out on the SD mounts. It is just a ring around the muzzle device. They are good to go. We will meter the Sig at some point but I don't have an ETA. As far as the mounting process between the Recce 5 & M4-2000, are they both pretty much thread on over muzzle device types and not "true" QD like the M4SD? thank you again for all your help! |

Tone effects each person different. This isn't to say it doesn't exist just that different people hear things differently. Personally the M4SD sounds the best to me.
Can really speak to the blowback because all the guns we use are tuned to silencers. Sorry I couldn't be more help on this one. |

Just trying to decide if I can be okay with knowing the 51t mount will eventually wear out or not...liking the QD option for the M4SD II at this point...don't know why but that dang Razor is still calling my name even though the suppression isn't what the others are. |
