If I decide not to pin a Spartan3 to my barrel, can it be put on hand tight or is a wrench required.
I ask because only about 1.5" of the suppressor would stick out past the hand guard, Thanks Ric |

The wrench is ideal. If you can only get a grip on 1.5" of the end I would recommend getting a quality strap wrench like a rigid pipe wrench. Torque keeps threads together. @35ft lbs the can won't break loose. At hand tight it might loosen in 10 rounds or less.
Thread mounts were a category our engineering staff were never interested in for that reason. The products we have in that category they were ordered to design to meet market demands for those products. Also there is always some risk involved in putting your hand over a suppressor during operation. There is a lot of heat there, and if anything catastrophic occurred, cans under handguards could put a hand over that suppressor. That's the liability disclosure. We don't run cans under handguards, and we don't recommend people do that. If it is done, that should be stragecially done, AKA the blast chamber of the suppressor covered is more safe than half the baffling of the suppressor for example. We've never seen bullets erupt through the tube of one of our suppressors, but we've seen it with other brands and applications (it is common with Mac 10's because they have coarse acme threads) and any possibility however slight warrants a safety consideration. |
