Hi guys,

I can really only afford to do this once, although I would really like more than one, I just dont see that being an option right now.  Before I order, I was looking for some input / help.  The LaRue wont spend much, if any time in a patrol car, nor do I anticipate it being used at work in any manner.  Its going to shoot paper, coyotes, small furry creatures, and of course Zombies!  I have always wanted a Stealth since I made my first LaRue order and started following the company and getting to know what LaRue was all about.  Although Ive never met any of its employees or owner, I have great respect for them not only as people, but for the outstanding work they turn out.  I dont want to miss out on the opportunity to own one of their rifles.

With that said, If anyone has any strong opionions about which would be better between an 18" with 12" rail or a 16" with 11" rail, I would appreciate the input.  Hell, even if they arent strong opinions, and really have nothing to do with performance, I would still like to hear from you.  Im still on the fence between ion and stainless finish too...and really have no idea what advantages one has over the other?

Thanks for all the help!

16/11

You won't lose much velocity to the 18" and it'll be more maneuverable when dealing with the zeds.

I am hoping for a 20/12 but I already have a couple other 16" so my input might not matter

16/11; no need to add a couple ounces near the muzzle.  In fact, 16/10 would be fine!

When I scrap up the money it is going to be a 16/11 w/DNTC Comp

16/12 is what I chose and I don't regret the decision one bit.

I just put together a 18" barreled upper with a 12" Laure rail. I think the hand guard is a little long. An  18" barrel with the 11" hand guard or even the 10" would balance out better. The 10 will leave the front part of the gas block exposed. Doesn't hurt a thing. Not a whole lot of reason for the long hand guard unless you shoot open sights that mount on the hand guard.

I also have a 16" Stealth with the 11" rail. Real nice.
I was into 20-24" varmint guns. After owning a couple of 16's and an 18" barreled Ar's I think that the longer barrels are overrated. They make a gun that is only good for target shooting off a bench or from a rest.
Another thing to look at on barrel length  -  what stock do you plan to use ?
16" balances good with a colapsable stock
18" balances better with a fixed stock such as the magpul sniper

When I got my LaRue, I already had 2 16" uppers, one from Armalite, and one from RRA, that did everything I needed them too.  I also had 2 20" uppers, a SS Armalite, and a Bushmaster with target crown.  So I split the difference and got the LaRue in the 18" with the 13.2 FF rail.

Just my $.02.

What about finish?  If you were ordering tomorrow, what would you pick and why?

You might get yours quicker if you order stainless as ion bonded is more popular, but that's just speculation.  Personally I like the ion bond look so that's what I ordered.

Barrels come to LT with Ion Bond already. Barrel has to be stripped for bare SS. That's my understanding. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It is the other way around.  The Ion Bond is an extra step added to the barrel.

16" with an10" hand guard if I was going to go with a collaspable stock
18" with an 11" hand guard if I  was going to go with a fixed stock.
Ion bonded either wasy
It wasn't an option when I bought mine

I personally favor the 16" rifle. I used to think you had to have a long barrel for accuracy.
Larue has debunked that myth.
