So I received my Strike Fire from B&H on May 8th. No pictures to post, but we all know what it looks like. I got the newest revision that has the longer threads for the doubler.
Out of the box there were no blemishes, glass was clear, every functioned perfectly, and everything fit together nicely. Two things that did surprise me; 1) The overall size and bulk was more than I expected, it's about 15% bigger & weightier than my cheapo Walther PS22 red dot. Being that the Strike Fire is a "budget" optic I wasn't expecting it to feel as solid as it does. It does feel like it can take a beating. 2) The grean dot is a little bit more crisp than the red dot, but they both get sharper when the doubler is installed. My opinion on the dot sharpness; with the doubler installed, it looks just about as sharp as an Aimpoint. Without the doubler, it falls between an EoTech and Aimpoint. Definately sharper than any other budget optics I've seen. What I mean by sharpness is the fuzziness (or lack there of) around the edge of the dot itself. Also, the dots are bright enough to be seen on both a sunny day and a bright overcast day here in Washington state. I ditched the mount that came with it, as I have a LaRue LT-150 mount. As expected, it fits perfectly and has a nice lower 1/3 cowitness. I was able to make it out to my favorite shooting pit and got the Strike Fire roughly sighted in within 20 rounds. Unfortunately as this isn't a real range, a rough sight in is all I could do. This initial zero was at 60 paces (rouglhy 50m) without the doubler. With doubler and targets at 120 paces (roughly 100m), I was able to hit every clay pigeon I aimed at with one shot. So all shots were in a 5" circle. And when I went out to 200 paces (roughly 175m), same results. In all 200 rounds were put down range. The Strike Fire performed wonderfuly. It held the rough zero. There was no perceived changes in point of impact when switching from red to green dot, nor when adding the doubler. I even dropped my (unloaded) rifle on the Strike Fire twice from about 2 feet (did this on purpose) and my rough zero held. In closing, the Strike Fire is a great product at a great price. I wouldn't hesitate buying one if your looking for a budget optic. |
