| Has anyone done the bombproof gas block install themselves? I have a drill press and vise and am considering doing it myself, I was just wondering if anyone else has and how they thought it went. |

Yes, I've done one (the first and so far only time I've done such a procedure). I have a small hobby milling machine, so that made it a good bit easier than using a drill press. I used an end-cutting mill bit and did not go to the final notch depth in one pass (due to the flexibility of the bit). I also used two v-blocks on the mill's bed to mount the barrel and keep it straight.
You could probably get away without using v-blocks, but you should definitely use some aluminum soft jaws with v-grooves to keep the barrel in place in your vise. You can find them various places, especially automotive performance parts suppliers like Summit Racing. |
