Admittedly I am basically an AR neophite, but I have a quick question that I hope someone can answer for me.
I have a Colt Sporter Match HBAR rifle (I believe it is a model 6601). Can a Colt 6520 upper be used interchangeably on the 6601's lower, also with the 6601's bolt, carrier and charging handle? Both use large hole forward pins. Thanks in advance. |

You might have a problem with weaker ammo just due to the heavier rifle buffer and carbine gas system combo, but yes it should work. You're lower probably has a sear block in it as well, so you'll need a semi-auto carrier in the 6520 upper. If you don't have one, the easiest thing is to use the carrier from the 6601, just make sure you change the bolt out so the 6520 bolt is being used with the 6520 and the 6601 bolt is being used with the 6601. |
| What? I am very confused now: I thought rifle buffer + carbine gas system is a good combo, because the carbine gas system is more "abusive" than the rifle gas system (hence the midlength was developed and that's why we have H and H2 type buffers, instead of just the plain old carbine buffer)? |

Colt doesn't make a mid-length gas system. They once made a prototype that is in Reed Knight's collection now. It's the only one of its kind as far as I know.
The rifle buffer weight is more in line with a H3 buffer. Both the H and H2 buffers are lighter than the rifle buffer. Like I said, it should work, but you may run into issues with weaker ammo, just like you would with a H3 buffer. |
