I'm taking off a Larue carbine rail and putting on a 13" Troy VTAC Alpha rail. Am I going to need any parts to accomplish this, such as a barrel nut or something like that? Help a noob out! Thanks gents... |

I'm not familiar with the V-Tac. Did it come with a barrel nut? Aftermarket handguards will either use a proprietary barrel nut or the standard one. Either way you will most likely need to swap it out since LaRue uses one of their own design. Also, you said "LaRue carbine rail," do you have a standard front sight base? If so you will need a low profile gas block or you will have to cut and grind your standard one down to fit under your 13" rail. Finally, do yourself a favor and have a torque wrench on hand when you put the barrel nut back on so that you can get it tightened within the specified range. ETA: This thread from the "build it Yourself" forum will help to give you an idea of what to expect. |

They don't come with a barrel nut....but it's a standard USGI nut that they mount to. I torqued mine and finally just had to line it up without the torque wrench for the gas tube alignment...I was stilll within the torque range but it was being uncooperative. |

Quoted: Thanks guys. Trying to figure out if the barrel nut is already on there with the Larue rail? The LaRue barrel nut is proprietary, not the standard version. There is a barrel nut on there but it most likely won't work with your new rail if the rail was designed to work with the standard version... Is that what you were asking? |

Thats what I was wanting to know. So I'll need to pick up a standard barrel nut before I can install the rail. Thank you |
