However, almost immediately, ground users began using and adopting the ANVIS for ground use, from Iraq to Iraq (the second time), not being fully replaced in many units by more ruggedized, dedicated ground systems until well after the introduction of the AN/PVS-31A Binocular Night Vision Device. Even today, the ANVIS still remains an extremely lightweight and versatile ground system. | Will - I’ve been researching NVDs for the past 5 or so years trying to justify the perfect time to drop the money and start building a night fighting setup. This seems like a pretty great way to get into a set of high spec goggles without investing over 10k into the latest/greatest housing. Do you think that the price point of these kind of offsets the negatives of having to set everything up for aviator ball detent mounted goggles? I’m aware of the drawbacks of anvis bridges and fragility but also think I could work around them with up armor |

I’m a big Anvis/ball-detent guy so I honestly don’t see the interface as a negative, however, it’s not for everyone. What I love about it is its stupid simple which I like with the only auto on/off function that I trust. I personally love Anvis-9s. They’re lightweight and the objective lenses due to the filters and finer focus gives a great image. The housing is tougher than most give it credit for but it certainly is not going to be as tough as something like an RNVG-A or DTNVS. For the average user damage almost always occurs from drops so keep it lanyarded and you’ll be fine. |
