EDIT 4/14/08 Any Updates?

Haven't seen a thread on it lately (at least at week )

I know the LAR-8 is taking priority, but this project is still actively in the works right?

Thanks

Oh, could you possibly give us a tidbit of info as to the stage your at?....Like "developing mags"  or "in beta testing phase" or "LAR-40?...what's that?"

Or....showing at SHOT, actively endurance testing them, and have T&E models going out......
We've learned from teh .308 project.  No release dates until it's ready to go, but it should literally be shortly after SHOT.

That's great news.  Steve will this be a complete rifle only or will you be selling uppers or the options of just parts (barrels, bolts, etc)

Thanks

Rifles (and probbaly upper halves)initially..then "all of the above" down the road a bit.

I am anxiously waiting this release.  In the law enforcement community the .40 has all but taken over, with all of my .40 weapons and ammo I'd love an AR I can shoot at the indoor range and use the same ammo.

Will lowers be marked ".40" ?????

Chrome lined barrels?

Moly bbls.
.40 marked lowers with integral magwell.
Proprietary 22rd straight-bodied mags (higher capacity to follow)
A2 and A4 configurations

Will these be offered in a "pistol" configuration?....to eventually make SBR'ing it easier?

I would rather just engrave the lower and slapping a buttstock on versus engraving the lower and cutting down the barrel.

Lastly, I imagine this is a blowback design....or is it direct impingment?

The 40S&W is essentially the same platform as our 9mm, but with several caliber specific components/changes.
Yes, blowback operated.

So I take it that there will be no "removable" magblock or will there? Will the standard mag release on the AR lower be used?
2/14/2008 4:23:35 AM EDT
[#12]
Std mag catch/release is used.
The dedicate d.40 lowers will have the integral magwell.  I believe that the 9mm magwell conversion block will still work with the .40 mag to convert a std lower.  I'll check with the engineering guys to verify that as sevral changes to the design have been made over the past several months.

Any idea on how many rounds the higher capacity mags will hold?

Will these be made in 7" and 10" Pistol configs?

Any idea on accuracy?

Accuracy will probabay be in the same area as our 9mms, and the higher cap mag will be in the neighborhood of 27rds.

What about 10 or 20 rnd mags for those of us in Maryland.

Gotta walk before we can run.  Once we're in full production of the higher cap mags we can look at what it will take to modify one body or the other to a low cap (to take care of the demand we'll see from those with limits less than your 20.

In this case, no news is good news.  We're in pre-production and just working out some of the minor issues (not related in any way to product performance) and doing pricing.
Shouldn't be long at this point.  Keep watching both here and at rockriverarms.com for an update.

Been a couple of months now...Any updates???

Also curious about the 5.45x39 upper....any word?

.40 is waiting, amongst other things, for the factory expansion to be finished.
I believe you're thinking of another company on the 5.45x39.

I think this was discussed a long time ago, but I can't remember what the outcome was-or if there was one.  Will the .40 use the same magazine well dimensions as (and thus be compatible with mag blocks for) the 9mm system?  I hope, I hope, I hope...];)]

That is the plan.  I'll have to check with Engineering to make sure nothing has changed in the several months since I was last involved withthe technical side of the project.

Steve I'll T&E one for my department.  I'd love to play with one.

bump for an update........

Sorry to sound like a smart ass but.............should I be checking the whether channel instead for a forecast of "flurries in hades"?
