I'm gonna be driving by Austin on 12/12 about midday and was wondering if I could swing by, look around and hopefully spend some money?

From what mark has said before they don't want people dropping by.  They don't have a visitor atmosphere there and they are too busy running the machines.  Won't hurt to call them even though this time of the year is probably the worst time of the year.

What I figured, but thought I would ask just in case they might allow a poor college student to drop by for a quick visit.

It's been brought up before, but to no avail!  I thought we were building up momentum for an independant get-together across the street from the shop or something, but it just petered out.

Someday we'll get a Larue Customer Appreciation Barbecue event (customers showing appreciation for Larue - not the other way around) planned and I can't wait to go!  Kinda need to go through there and see if there's a good place to do something like that.  Plan it, show up, let the barbecue smoke drift over toward the shop and just see if anybody comes out! ;)

Oh,don't worry - if I ever even get in the parking lot I'll be taking pictures.. me with the county road sign, me in the parking lot, me knocking on the door, me talking to security, me being escorted off the premises, etc.

Sorry to disappoint. There really aren't any people at LaRue, only CNC robots and that Mark LaRue guy is really a fake. The real LaRue is a geeky guy with a beard and a raspy voice who runs the CNC machines behind a Wizard of Oz style curtain, while sucking on popsicles.

Furthermore, the plant isn't really in Texas, but over the border at the base of the XERB radio/internet trunking station.

Quite funny, but I drive right next to it every time I go to Austin. I've actually been there twice, they unfortunitely are not set-up to accept visitors.

As much as I'd love the full tour, they have lots of work to do and too many secret squirl projects going on to let the public attend. If they would do the tour/meet the crew day I would be first in line. I'm sure if Mark ever does one it will be for team members.

P.S. Mark thanks for the Dillo, I'm still open to being the floor sweeper/intern on my days off (I only work 2 days a week so my schedual is pretty open, hint, hint.)

Oh now you've gone a ruined it for me!!!!

I envisioned a gleaming white spired CNC temple surrounded by a golden parking lot with pearly gates leading in...and, and angels singing softly somewhere just out of sight...and Mark holding a gleaming shaft of the finest aluminum and standing, all-knowing, atop a pulpit whilst he repeats softly..."Behold. This...this is my place and these are my people."
