I am seriously considering ordering a SPARC and see many great reviews about them. I even had a chance to use one a few weekends ago and fell in love with it. My only issue is with the size battery that is currently being used in them. They are not easy to find and not commonly used outside the medical field from what I can tell.
So, my question is this: has Vortex ever considered changing over to the ever popular CR-2032 battery in the SPARC? Both are 3v batteries and the CR-2032 can be found just about anywhere, including Walmart and most grocery and drug stores, while the currently used CR-2354 isn't. I even saw the CR-2032 in plentiful supply at my local Gander Mountain last weekend. I can't say the same for the CR-2354. I think the SPARC is one of the best values for the money in a quality affordable optic but the battery size seems to be a deal breaker for many who research this issue. I would also suspect a great deal more of these awesome little units would be sold if finding batteries were a non-issue. I can say for sure I would buy three SPARCs today if the battery used was a more common size. I have been scratching my head over this for a couple weeks now and just can't decide yes or no simply due to the battery size. I would love to hear thoughts on this as I am sure this isn't the first time it has come up. Regards, Pacodutaco |

If any help to you, Battery Plus stores have the 2354, plenty at my local stores for around 6 bux if I remember correctly. My Meopta K dot uses the same battery so I was happy to find it at BPlus. Thanks for the info. I need to check to see if there is a Battery Plus store locally. I must say, I am a bit surprised there has been no response from Vortex given this is an industry forum. Thanks for the battery info. Pacodutaco |

Pacodutaco Hi, Sorry I missed this post somehow, but let me try to answer your questions. As far as changing the battery to a CR2032, we don't have any plans to do that with the SPARC at this time. However, if you are having trouble finding them please give us a call at 1-800-426-0048 and you can get them directly from us. Hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with. -Sam |

I was curious why Vortex went with the CR2354 versus the CR2032, and it seems that the CR2354 has more than twice the capacity; so battery life was probably the primary motivation for its selection.
I did consider the battery issue before I bought my SPARC; but I ultimately pulled the trigger on the SPARC because of its price versus the prices of its competitors from other trusted name brands. I've got a few of these batteries now (via Amazon.com) and a couple of the rail-mounted battery holders from Vortex; so I'll be good-to-go for a while. |
| After much deliberation, I ended up ordering two SPARCs. I got one for myself and one for my brother as a gift. I got lucky and ordered them from AIM taking advantage of their 10% off 4th of July Sale. I was able to find batteries locally at a Battery Plus store. They were $3.99 ea. and of course I can always order more online if needed. I am looking forward to receiving them. |
