Carried my new PSA 16" mid length Melonite barrel upper to the range today.  Attached a PA 1-6 scope on an ADM QD mount from another rifle.  SHOTS WERE ALL OVER THE PLACE!

They were 3" to 6" apart.  I couldn't even come close to zeroing the scope because of shots flying all over the target..

I reattached the scope to the Delton upper it had been on and immediately went back to acceptable groups.  I've never had this happen with a rifle before so I'm wondering where to start on finding where the problem is.  Could there be an issue with the PSA Picatinny rail and the ADM mount?  It certainly feels tight.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Have you tried shooting it with irons?

Or let someone else try it with the scope?

The rifle has free floating hand guard so no front sight and I built the rifle not intending to have BUIS.

While I've never been accused of being an expert marksman, I was shooting the rifle off a bench at 25 yards.  Doubt anyone could do a whole lot better.  And as I said in the OP, I was shooting tight groups with the scope on another upper.  But..............at this point, I'm open to anything.

Good point and one of my thoughts.  I've built quite a few lowers but never an upper.  My neighbor has all the tools so thought that probably would be the first thing I need to check.  I need to research the torque value.

Could it be a chamber defect?

Check barrel torque.

Where did you get the barrel?  Was it purchased new from us?

Yes, recently purchased from you as a complete assembled upper:

PSA 16" 5.56 NATO 1:7 Mid Melonite 13" Keymod Freedom Upper - w/BCG & CH - 7779589

I don't think it is the scope/ QD mount since the combination works fine on a Delton upper I have.  Before I do anything I think I'll check it with another scope with fixed rings.

As mentioned in my second post above, no iron sights.

No two uppers have the same exact 1913 rail (even within "mil spec", there is variation). I usually have to readjust the mount tension when switching to other uppers. Never just slap on an optic from another rifle and expect it to fit properly without verifying it does. Double check it. Just start over mounting the optic on this upper and "feel" for the proper tension. Then retry shooting it. I'll bet you pull your groups in to proper size.

Thank you for your prompt reply.  I want to try one more time using a different optic with fixed rings (non-QD mount).   If same results I'll call for information.

I would never just slap a mount on a rifle and expect positive results.  In my trip to the range this scope/mount combo was removed and remounted 5 times, each time trying different tension settings on the ADM QD mount levers.  I tried moving the mount to different positions on the rail with same results.  I'm not saying this is not the problem, I'm just running out of new things to try.

As mentioned above, before returning the upper I want to try a different scope with standard non-QD rings.
