So yeah, these are great uppers. Honestly, if you go back a couple of years ago to when they were selling the UU kits, they were the best deal going and I recommended them enough on this forum and elsewhere that I feel Mark should at least have sent me a hat and some Dillo Dust. I guess that makes sense since they don't want you to stack discounts. But worked for me last night for me as a retired, old fart, civilian. Still didn't go forward with purchase because I really don't need another upper. |

A month or so back and I would have been all over this deal instead of building my own stealth 1.0/quad rail upper, plus the 5th group history is pretty neat.

Received my painted upper today...I ended up with the one that is pictured on the website and on Muad's pg 1 post #10. YHM front sight was nice to leave on it. Second painted upper that went to my friend (who didn't know he needed one but he did) didn't include a front sight but nonetheless legit. Both have same barrel markings as pg 1 post #47 (8P). My first Larue rifle had a stealth upper and SMOS lower so cool to have another in the family.
I have a few lowers from last Memorial Day sale for donors and also picked up those MLOCK uppers from PA when they went on sale a while back...both were quite a steal but these are a cool throw back. The owners of these uppers value them in different ways but they are an awesome piece of history just like a CMP 1911, M9 or rifle I think. Side note: don't lose your firing pin retaining pin if you slide the bolt out to inpsect....as Mark says... "Just sayin" ! |

I guess we’ll see what shows up here on Friday. Painted or black. Lol
I grabbed parts out of the bin for a black, but can easily change up for a painted. I’ll just have to hit up the hardware store for some krylon if it’s a painted upper. |

Do these have chrome bcg’s?

I was wondering if the names coincided with who they were issued to...I have a box also marked like someone else did AND had a hanging tag inside the same box with the same name. My name was different than someone else's pictured name. |

On the mis-timed A2 flash hiders, I'm guessing those were probably just spun on when they were turned in to replace whatever suppressor attachment they were running.
I'm glad to see everyone receiving the 9.0 handguARds instead of the 8.2 (?) shown in the listing for the black uppers. I don't remember them offering an 8.2. I guess that might add to the mystique if you got one. Attached File |

Ah, sounds like only a couple have the 8.2 and they will be listed separately.
Also sounds like they have more. Attached File |

"...In the wake of September 11, 2001, the group was called upon to play a major role in the war on terror. The 5th SFG (A) was the first American unit deployed into Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. From October 2001 through April 2002, Special Forces detachments of the 5th SFG (A) conducted unconventional warfare against Taliban and Al Qaeda forces. Within six months, the 5th SFG (A), a regimental-sized force, effectively destroyed the popular base of the Taliban government and toppled the terrorist-sponsoring state of Afghanistan. The group was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for its extraordinary accomplishments during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Immediately after redeploying to Fort Campbell, the group began preparations for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Within six months, elements of the Group deployed back into the theater of operations. In January 2003, the entire group completed deployment back to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. Upon the commencement of combat operations, the group conducted the full array of Special Forces missions from Theater Ballistic Defense in the Western Desert to unconventional warfare in Southern and Central Iraq. These efforts facilitated the defeat of Saddam Hussein's regime. From the opening days of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the fall of the Baath Regime in 2003 through the final withdrawal of U.S. Forces and the end of Operation New Dawn in 2011, 5th SFG (A) has provided the full spectrum of Special Operations in support of Coalition Forces and the Iraqi government. The pinnacle of these achievements are evident in the thousands of successful operations targeting terrorist and insurgent networks through the training and development of the most capable and effective Iraqi Military, Police and Special Operations Forces. Special Forces Soldiers have proven again to be our nation's ultimate combat multiplier, building skills and capabilities with multiple partner nation security forces across the CENTCOM area of operations, always prepared to execute the most hazardous and sensitive special operations when and where directed..." EO 553 on the EE…..

^^^ Nice, mine got delayed so should show up tomorrow now.
I agree on the optic, I thought about it briefly, but I’ve got a couple 552’s I can use instead. |
|
|
Received mine today. Painted and dirty, YHM front sight, A2 MD is timed correctly. Interestingly the outside of the box has the name Mike Bowman written on it in pencil. A quick Google leads me to believe this was Sgt. Maj. Michael Bowman’s upper.

I tried Google but not a lot of luck with my name(s). If anyone has better luck or another way of checking names, message me and I'll send you the name(s) I have. Just wanted to respect some privacy ya know! Great reading on the history and significance of the 5th SFG.

I dont get it, what's the appeal of a old dirty upper that's used and has a unknown round count for that kind of money? i could see if it was the gun you or your buddy carried but im pretty sure in 99 percent of the cases thats not true.
i own as much larue as most people but have no idea as to why id want one of these, you guys must be the real collectors. |

View Quote Curious - would you buy a CMP 1911 or M1 Garand? |
|

It’s the historical aspect mostly for me. These guys were quite literally who the movie 12 Strong was about. Which makes who had my upper even cooler…. To me at least.
Dug around in my parts boxes and found a matching YHM rear BUIS to go with the front and slapped an old EO 552 on it. |
|
|
I get the appeal, and trust me I wanted a painted one.
But, for me the price was out of range. I'm directing all gun fund stuff to ammo right now, or items for my tOBR. If it weren't for that, I'd probably have ordered one. Like my Garand and M1911A1, the idea of them being in a soldier's hands during WW2 adds to the overall nostalgia and "want" factors. These LT uppers were in the hands of some brave patriots, and that has value to many. |

View Quote Look into what the return MK13 returns stock sold for vs what they sell for now. Make that same comparison for the colt marine guns, sig return guns, the knights delta uppers, the MCM smear stocks, the M24’s released on new receivers with the parts stripped from legit .mil guns, the list goes on. There was a drop of colt CQB uppers that sold for 2k when they hit. Haven’t see one sell in a while. The appeal is an actual in country used upper with actual provenance of a time/place during the GWOT. Hell in this case some of them are trackable to an actual person. |

Has anyone shot theirs?
How well do they still perform. I'm tempted at $999, but if the barrel is beat to hell, I won't be happy. |
