Steve,

Can a complete (ARO950X) .223 pistol lower be ordered without the "PISTOL" marking on the right side of the receiver? If not, is there an order number for a rifle lower, assembled-no stock?

The "pistol" marking isn't anything required by law...we do it as a simple reminder f how it's leaving the factory and it's legal status (in our fed books) when it does so.
We don't sell a stockless lower half per se...it would just be a stripped lower and a lower parts kit...I imagine that we could assemble it as far as we could and leave the takedown detent and spring in a little bag with it.

Thanks, Steve, for the information. With all that being said, one more question. If I buy a stripped lower (not marked as a pistol) from your company, how do you view the receiver? As a rifle or is it usable as either? In the letter of the federal law, because there is no stock or barrel, it should not be considered a rifle.

Evidently the ATF will contact the manufacturer for a statement and the 4473 declaration may come second fiddle? PLMK, Frank.

We log it out in the "rifles" fed book, but it all comes down to how the FFL puts it in his books and transfers it to you.
If he logs it as a stripped receiver, and then puts the same on the 4473, but to be on the safe side treats it like a pistol as far as call in, waiting period, etc...you should be good to go.  The ATF only requires that it (AR-style pistol)be either built on a stripped lower (that has never been a rifle), or that it be a dedicated pistol to begin with.
