Going great New mag is in the works(rather than trying to get it to work with the 9mm mag) and should be ready soon.

I guess that RRA and the other companies are about to be over run with orders.  The anxiety has already hit the market.  I know I have some anxiety already.

Will the .40 be available as an upper only? Please say yes.

Hey Steve.  Long time lurker, first time poster in this forum.

Is there a press release or anything you can point me to for information on this AR in .40 S&W?  I'm really interested in one and just want to find out a little more info.  I was talking to a family member about it after seeing this thread and he's dying for more info too.

I have been waiting for a while.  All I have been able to get is that it is simular to the 9mm, just basically adapted to the .40s&w.  I am paitiently waiting to place my order.  but if it takes too long i just might have to order the 9mm as a second choice.  I will admit I would not be as happy withy the 9 over the 40.

OK, I have seen where a few other companies are looking at the .40 Super and a .45.

How much longer for the RRA .40 S&W?  I have been patiently waiting and have the cash on hand to buy one today.

A little info would help.

We're going withthe original plan of getting the calibers already cataloged out first...458 and .308 are the big ones that are finally moving, the 6.8 is also moving, and 40 is next...I'm just waiting on a reliable magazine, which is being beta tested and tweaked at this time.  Once it's set, all of the final testing is done using it/them, we can expect a month or two time lag before we'll ship.

Just open the bolt face on a 9mm bolt colt style 32 thousands bigger and fine tune the extractor and they work with the 9mm mags.
and and a 357sig barrel is what i have

I was just thinking of getting rid of my G23 because I do not have anything else in 40 S/W to shoot. But since I saw this thread now it looks like I will a have a AR to go with my G23. Please keep us up to date.

I broke down and ordered the 9mm.  I am deciding on the .40 or 6.8 as my next upper.

What is the proposed magazine capacity on your .40 magazines ??

Thanks.

Approx 28 rounds...we're playing withthe follower now and that may eat up a round or two, maybe add to  it, depending on what we do.

If you're willing and able to get magazines made, please consider .45acp as well.  The full width of the AR magwell should be able to fit a double column metal mag for .45.
6/1/2007 5:30:34 AM EDT
[#19]
The internal dimensions of the magwell pretty much preclude a traditional double stack 45 mag...would either have to go to a transitional double (or triple) stack mag going to a single feeding stack, or a coffin mag with the same sort of transition.
We don't have any plans for a 45ACP version at this time, but, aagin, we also don't preclude anything from consideration.  We just have to move currently planned/in development projects (both those previously announced and those which haven't been)along towards their introduction before we bite off a whole lot more.

Patiently waiting...

Of course a 10mm upper shouldn't be an issue at all since it's just a bit longer than the .40...

Please!

Oh what a fine deer carbine that would make!

I was wondering if, at this time, you plan to use the same magazine adapter for the .40 that you have for the 9mm?

I'm in the process of going SBR with my RRA 9mm AR, and would love to add a .40 upper on the existing lower.

Thanks

Excellent...

Given the looming potential for bad political Juju...  Maybe you guys could consider offering the magazines for sale as soon as they are 100% GTG and the .40 is "in process"?

I really would like a .40 carbine that takes 20+ rounds.  A .40 carbine with 10rnd mags... not so much.

Thanks again for the updates and the AWESOME product line!

Actually, the uppers we've already prototyped are GTG withthe modified mags we've been using.  Once production mag is available, we can test with it and get the uppers going.

I believe a grease gun (M3) magazine with the extra "wrap" of metal removed will fit in an AR magwell.  I've seen photos of M3 mags modified that way for the Oly .45 setup.  I dont have a grease gun mag or I'd try it myself.

Especially using the thinner gauge stainless material like CP uses, a .45 mag should be very feasable using the full width of the magwell, not the reduced width like the 9mm mags use.  This would necessitate a two piece (pinned) mag block setup most likely.

Great to hear that RRA is doing a .40 caliber upper for the AR, I have a friend who will be very excitied.

I am confused however why you would be developing a new magazine...the Uzi boys have been using .40 cal S&W chamebred barrels and standard 9mm Uzi mags with no issue whatsoever for some time.  In fact, uzitalk.com has a caliber reference page where it lists how many rounds of .40 a 9mm uzi mag will hold- 17 rounds in a 25 roudn mag, and 23 rounds in a 32 round mag.  By my math a 40 round Argentine 9mm Uzi magazine would hold 28 rounds, which makes for a pretty long puppy.

In any case, my point is that unless your upper is having some issues with the Uzi mag/upper combo in prototype testing, it should pretty much be a plug and play thing(?)

I can't get .40 to stay in any of my 9mm AR magazines.  After 5-7 rounds, the rounds come spraying out like a water fountain.

For a company like RRA it would most likely be easier, cheaper, faster, and more reliable to stamp out new mags with proper dimensions rather than to acquire existing mags, disassemble, tweak the feed lips, replace followers, etc.

I personally very much appreciate that RRA is developing a new magazine to go with this new upper.

Of course, I will be "tweaking" my personal .40 mags at some point to see if I can create a .357 Sig platform using the RRA .40 bolt and mags along with a rechambered RRA 9mm barrel.

I'm ahead of you on that one, Onslaught.
A .40 dedicated mag opens up a lot of possibilities that a 9mm mag won't work for.
BTW, I believe that the prototype .40 mags (just a very little bit longer than a 32rd 9mm, will hold 28rds).

I thought you might be.

Not to sound ungrateful, because I'm NOT AT ALL, but just wondering if there was any chance of an 18 - 20 round .40 magazine soon after all is resolved and production begins?

I'd certainly want some 28 round mags, but as with my 5.56 ARs, I find myself using the 20 round mags significantly more often than the 30/32, especially with the 9mm.

As a police officer and my departments firearm instructor and armor, I can say my whole department would be moving to a short barrel .40 cal AR15.

Lets fire things up and get these things out.

PS Need any cold weather T&E drop me a line, Alaska gets a little cold from time to time.

Until we're past the current stage (holding pattern) I can't really say what other options might be in the offing for the .40s...we'll ahve to see what I can think up once production gets going.

hopefully besides the defacto 16" I would like to see you offer a 7 or 8 inch barrel.

I am stoked....have to start saving money now

As far as I know, 16" carbinesa will be the initial offering, probably followed by the pistol uppers...possibly the same 7" and 10.5" as the 9mm line.
