So is the problem in the handguard or barrel?

Some of there barrels like the socom and dissipator barrels I know for sure dont have the ramp that snugs up the handguard cap so it is loose witch makes your handguards twist and turn.

Many of the barrel contours we have do not have handguard cap retention.  The M10s, M18s and M2s.   This is how they are designed so that customers can pick different gas positions.

We will periodically get a handguard cap that is not like the customer wants and we will make whatever adjustment/replacement is necessary.

No issues, many many rounds 14.5" w. perm phantom. All plastic handguards will have some movement even Colt.

Absolutely no movement with my RRA + Cav Arms midlength handguards though... honestly feels rock solid.

Looking forward to getting my CMMG, but will put a free float forearm onto it, might as well, as free float options these days are a dime a dozen, and getting easier and easier to install.
