| I purchased a .22 upper directly from cmmg this past december, I now want to install say a Midwest Industries SS-Series Free Float Tube on it. The question can I install a rifle length handgaurd on it and just leave the gas block off? is there anything I should be aware of when installing this? |
| On the dedicated .22 upper the gas block is not needed. On most rifles its only used for holding a front sight and the standard type hand guard. There is no reason not to remove it if you don't need it. There is no hole in the barrel or any other surprise if it is just taken off. Built my own upper with a CMMG barrel so "been there, done that". |

why not? .22 system is blowback operated...no DI required and shouldnt even have a gas port to worry bout.
I used to have a Spikes dedicated upper and swapped the carbine length handguard out for a new YHM lightweight Midlength rail. Just make sure you are using the right tools for the job. |

As stated, just remove the gas block and mount the free float. I use the ST on my 5.5" CMMG pistol build. http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/medium/CMMG_5_5_22_upper_0071.JPG That's awesome. I love seeing the cans up under the floated rail. |
