Someone pointed out to me that someone on TOS has his panties sucked up the crack of his azz over bolts and TDPs. Meh, here's my hillbilly take on that TDP ... it's similar to the likes of the FAA, the FDA, etc. Once you tell Uncle Sam's guys/gals what you're doing, and how you're doin' it ... then that's exactly what you're gonna be doin' forever (right or wrong). It mighta gone like this ... one day, a long time ago, Uncle Sam said "How y'all makin' these ?", and one of them fellers up in New England said, "Well, it's like this Uncle Sam ", and somebody else that maybe had a bud in the inspection bidness way-back-when, added "We'd sure like you to do this fer us, but we'd be more comfortable if'n you did this, this, and this to these before we cut you loose with this here contract." And the would-be contract holders thought for a minute about it, and decided it wouldn't harm nuttin' and then they said "Sure !!". And bam, a TDP was born. Not sayin' that's what happened here, just hillbilly theorizin' ...
Now as to having the "Ancients Urinate on the bolt face while facing north", there ain't no harm in it. But like playing the lottery, your odds are barely better if you play, same goes for them bolts. CNC maching centers sicced onto whizbang, high quality steel, coupled with SPC ––- well, you're gonna get the same result time, after time, after time. I know for a fact that the failure rate is a zillionth above nothing, and IMO, it's a waste of time. Bolts fail, and IIRC, bolts are expected to fail at or about 5,000 rounds. MP'd and HPT tested bolts fail earlier and later than 5,000 rounds. What does this all prove ? Carry another bolt and drive on. The bottom line is that the two broken bolts (out of the hundreds/thousands we've been involved with), were replaced by our "No sh*t" warranty, and we aim to gladly replace any others that happen to break. Since they are running inside our ultra-square Stealth upper receivers, then I know we'll be replacing damn few bolts over the coming years. Happy holidays and Merry Christmas to all.
