hi guys, finally signed up so i can ask some noob questions! :P

about a year ago i ordered a PSA complete upper and bcg separately. earlier this year i bought another complete upper that came with bcg and charging handle. i know the psa site says all uppers are test fired, but do i still need to perform the headspace check on these? i'm mostly concerned about the previous upper and bcg that came separately. thanks in advance for any help!

i've heard no, and that all barrels are headspaced before leaving them..

caution says always headspace your firearm when assembling them, especially the first time.

that all being said.... and say what yall will... Ive not headspaced a single AR i've built and all function flawlessly..

I bought a set of Forster 5.56 gauges on eBay for $60 to muck around with. I figure my first AR will not be my last
There's a neat little trick where a recess can be dremelled out of the gauge for the ejector, eliminating the need to remove the ejector pin.

^ what GCO said, most barrels are head spaced before leaving the barreling company. I believe I read somewhere on here where FN directly said they head spaced their barrels before selling it to anyone, including seconds.

This makes me more likely to buy an upper and then a BCG/Handle separate to spread out my purchase and choose what I want with what.

Now, I need to pick my upper and my BCG!!

to each their own.  i cant say i blame you.  i hve to build peice by peice... and truthfully should buy a set of guages.. but i havent yet.  odd that i have vice blocks, armorers blocks, wrenches, punches, jigs, etc, but no headspace guages. lol
