People seem pretty bummed there's no iphone 5 yet.  I'm excited about the 4S, I'm getting myself a fancy pants new phone AND it can wear a magpul field case.  I bet magpul is excited as well, they don't have to design another case yet...

Most of those assholes have no life.

The iPhone 4S is a neat gadget and has a hell of a camera built in. If you are considering converting to an iPhone, I would say "do it."

If you want to save a few bucks, settle for the (now older) iPhone 4.

Plus it is a pretty decent phone if you live where there is good service. All phones are shitty if you live on the fringe.

Way disappointed here. Pissed I have to start the countdown clock for June for a new device. The thing I wanted most was a larger edge to edge screen. A lot of the stuff going into the 4S sounds awesome and I'd love to upgrade now because my 3GS seems slow these days. But I'm not going to waste an upgrade knowing full well they'll crank out a new device in 8 months.

For now I'll have to settle for the OS upgrade which will probably end up slowing down my 3GS a little more. The biggest thing I'm looking forward to... being able to minimize the keyboard in iMessage. Most of the other stuff I'm not sure really matters...Tasks, how it handles messages, updates, etc should be neat... aside from that I'm not sure how much it's going to change things.

iPhone 4S fits in the 4 case from MAGPUL. I am rocking mine right now. I have the AT&T one and everything line up. What an upgrade from my 3G, that thing was so slow. The MAGPUL field case rocks too.

iOS 5 is nice, but there are little improvements I hope to see.

Definitely have to do something with Newsstand... either make it an ON/OFF app like Nike+ or incorporate it in iBooks.

The iPhone 4s will NOT work in a iPhone 4 Magpul case if it's the older gen. I can take pictures if need be but I assure you it doesn't work for the cases shaped for AT&T, unsure if the newer version for Verizon work

What do you mean by older gen?

I have the new field case and it works fine on my AT&T  4S, but it is the newer case.

When the Verizon iPhone was released, it was slightly different from the AT&T version. The volume buttons are in slightly different positions, and the ringer switch is moved a little bit down. When people tried using the old cases (I use an OtterBox Defender for my Verizon iPhone, which was in a similar boat), there was a fitment problem. It "fit," but not correctly (the ringer switch would be partially covered on many cases). After the Verizon iPhone was released, most cases were adjusted to fit both phones.

From what was said, I believe the iPhone 4S is based off the Verizon iPhone pattern (relationship of the buttons/switch). You won't be able to use cases designed for the AT&T iPhone, prior to the release of the Verizon iPhone.

Sorry magpul but your case does not fit the 4s.  I have a 32 gig AT&T and it is doing what was described.  The mute switch is slightly off.  Any plans on changing this?

siri is ok she wont tell you which is better - xbox or playstation - doesnt know what the matrix is or how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie roll. Oddly however she seemed very coy when I asked her if she was self aware or when she might become self aware. Also the age old question of "do you swallow" garnered a funny almost flirtatious response.

if you have a paid for 3 or 4 they are still quite valuable especially rooted and I would imagine you could get 300 + for a rooted 4 at this point. the last time a new model came out the 4 I sold 11 phones for my coworkers between 300 and 350 each.

ATT is rape on specs hspa + is a myth even in socal - it wont be unlocked and data costs out the anus so I recommend sprint.

AFAIK there were some supply reasons the 5 was not released at this time relating to the new screens and some other issues with the new processors.

IF you are looking to buy two phones and you only have 1 upgrade get to the confirm screen on apple and your carrier before pressing confirm on both right after the other and both will ship at the lower price.

I read one article that said the 5 is going to be LTE but Apple isn't going to move on it until the hardware is smaller as the antenna apparently takes up a lot of space and kills battery power.

Just thinking though. Surely they're working two phones ahead at any given time.
I'm still holding on to the hope that the 5 will hit in June regardless of LTE and the 5S will get the hardware upgrade to accommodate the LTE if it's not available soon enough to get a June release.

I'm getting antsy though. I would love to upgrade now but that'll kill my upgrade for two years and if the 5 comes out this spring/summer I'll be pissed.

To clarify.... you have the AT&T version of the 4s correct?

Just wanted to check because I have heard some rumor that the AT&T version of the new phones don't line up properly with the mute switch slot on the case.

I do have AT&T 4s.  AT&T went with the same style as the Verizon 4.  You have to make sure the case is gen 2 otherwise it will not properly fit a 4s regardless of carrier

I decided to finally get rid of most of my older iPhones.  In the past week I sold two 3G models for $140 each. They cost $199 each.   I woluld have gotten $150, but the guy who was buying the first one saw I had another for sale and wanted a "Twofer" deal for $280.  These phones were purchased new in April of 2009.  I also had two iPHone 4's and sold a black 16Gb for $350 which cost $199, and a black 32 Gb for $400 which cost $299.  These were purchased in June of 2010, and just now replaced by the new 4s.

My point is, there is a tremendous market for used iPhones that I doubt any Android will approach.  Maybe not the best reason to go Apple, but it should count for something.

Why do you have so many functional iPhones?

I never wanted to go through the hassle to sell them.

I was surprised how easy it is to sell stuff on Craigslist.  For the phones, if the price is in the ballpark, I was getting 10-20 calls the first day the ads ran.  Usually sold to one of the first callers without any price negotiation.  I suspect they were people who were really serious and may have lost out on some other purchases already and did not want screw around just to try and save a few bucks.

I have kept a 3Gs as a spare, backup phone still.  I travel a lot, and so I'd rather lose an old phone than my latest model.

Issues with: Siri, the camera, "yellow-tint" screen, reduced battery life compared to the 4, slower speeds, and/or crappy service with Sprint?

You had two 4's? Why two? Same with the 3's... That's what I meant. Usually you buy one when the other breaks.

I'm not faulting you on this... I plan on upgrading while I still have a functional one... just not side-grading... Not sure what the real term is for replacing something you have that works with the same thing.

Once I had an iPhone for a while, the wife HAD to have one also.  Can't say as I blame her, besides, the FaceTime video calling is great between the two.  I did an upgrade to a 3Gs just a few months after getting the 3G and still have it.  She didn't want/need one, so that is now my spare/travel phone.

I am with AT&T, so I have not had any battery issues, yellowscreen, or other problems mentioned.  I consider the 4s an upgrade due to the speed difference.  Hell, I'm up a hundred bucks besides!!

The update fixed the push issue I had with my Yahoo email. Now, I actually find out when I get an email.

I really never had an issue with the battery, since I put my iPhone (4, Verizon) in the dock at night. I felt that the battery use would have been similar from the previous iOS (4.2.10). But going to 5.0.1, I do notice the battery not going lower as quickly as before. I use Tapatalk for a number of forums, and I would be at about 98% from 100% if I went through and checked new posts (mark them all as read, afterwards). Since 5.0.1, I can do all that and not drop down from 100%... and I've added two additional forums since then.

Reading some complaints of the battery drain, I don't think mine had anything to do with it. There were some people that would do something simple, and the lever would drop 20%. I never had issue with battery life, so I’m just posting what I noticed.

I've been closing all of the apps in my multitaking block... I've read it really doesn't drain because unless it's using location services or something else that gives an icon at the top it's not actually running an app... but I can't help but wonder so I'm gonna do it for a while and see.

As do I, and have done it from day one.

The loss in battery in both was strictly due to use. If I take it out of the dock, it always stayed at 100% until I got to using it.

A lot of the things I read said it was running down just being on. And a lot. Like 20% in 1.5 hours. Not sure how exaggerated the reports are though.
