I have a very nicely built rifle (built for self-defense and just fun), but am looking for a second upper for prairie dogs.  Most shots are under 250 yards.  I have looked at all the different models with the EOP upper (varmint & coyote) that RRA has to offer, but don't know which would be a better way to go.  I don't do a lot of walking.  We usually find a nice spot on a hill and just wait for them to pop up.  I will be using a 4x12 or a higher power with a bipod.  I will be shooting 55 grain or lighter loads

I would get an upper reciever that has a conventional flat top.  The rear section of an adjustable high power is going to be too long to allow you proper eye relief and cheek weld unless you can use mounts (like the RRA cantalever or Scout rail) that allow you to get the front ring farther forward.

Below is an example.  Notice how the front ring is forward, out beyond the reciever:

I was also looking at their cantilever scope mount and wondered if that would put the scope to high.  I think you are right about the flat top.  thanks

Their RRA cantalever mounts are slick.  I only have the Scout mount on that rifle above as when I bought it RRA had not marketed the cantalever mounts yet.  Their older non-cantalever mount/ring setup has the same problem as the EOP... doesn't allow the scope to go far enough forward.

I bought a bunch of RRA cantalever mounts the other day.  They are a great American made value.
