I know lots of us are hoping/waiting for different caliber barrels to be released. It sounds like the .260 and .300 BO are in the works, but I'm interested in a 6.5 Grendel, especially after reading this a couple years ago: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_2_219/164444_Elk______Pics__pg__2_and_8_____LaRue_s_Great_American_Safari_.html&page=1
I'm not sure how much longer I can wait, so I was wondering if anyone had bought the tOBR barrel nut and swapped out their barrel for another caliber. I think I read a few had done that with a predatar barrel. Anybody gone custom with their tOBR? |

I'm experimenting with a 16" Grendel barrel now. Just put in on and tried it for the first time a couple days ago. So far so good. Shoots good, functions properly. Only thing is, the gas system. It currently just has a low profile gas block and nothing adjustable. My gun smith drilled the gas hole as small as he felt comfortable with. As I told him, it's going to pretty much have a suppressor on full time. I'm hoping to get time again in the next couple of days to stretch it out and shoot some more and will gladly keep you posted.
I should also say that I don't believe this is a replacement for the real thing. You know, should Larue start making 6.5 Grendel tOBR's and/or barrel cartridges, I'd be all over that. |

Try drilling a larger hole in the barrel and using an adjustable low profile gas port to find your sweet spot. The barrel in my 6.8 has a Wylde type chamber configuraton which should allow for hotter loads. My barrel maker drilled the hole larger than he normally does so I can still shoot my rather large stash of Remington ball ammo. I used the adjustable gas port to tune it to my particular buffer/spring combo and the Remingtom Premier Match 115gr rounds. Still need to see how it works with the ball. The Wolff extra power spring and hydraulic buffer had to go. Ended up using an H2 buffer and JP tuned spring. Rounds eject at 4 to 5 o'clock. Figure the lower power ball rounds will eject at 3 to 4 o'clock..... Kick seems to be as light as my 5.56 weapons. Willl need to shoot them side by side to be sure. I know you said it will be suppressed most of the time, but it would be nice if it works correctly in either configuration. My adjustable gas port is click adjustable. Once you have your weapons adjusted for suppressed fire, adjust it one click at a time until it works properly for unsuppressed firing.... |
| Yeah, we talked about that and at some point I may take it back and have the hole drilled out for the very reasons you said. It'd be cool to know that I'd have settings for suppressed and un-suppressed, just in case. One of the things I like about the tOBR design. I do like your idea for the H2. May look into that as well. Like I said though, I'm just getting started and want to see how it's going to act with a couple more loads and different conditions. Thanks for the advice though, really. Those are some good ideas. |

The original intent of this thread was to see if anyone had done there own caliber conversion using the tOBR Barrel Nut, it sounds like no one has. I was really considering getting a .300 blackout barrel between 9"-11" somewhere else and doing this, but then I realized the handguard from my 16" tOBR would be too long

being that larue offered 300 blackout barrels to the guys in the build ar list,i have to imagine they are gearing up for releasing them for the guys with tobr's.
my guess is mark is just trying to figure out what to do with all the cash he will be raking in on the tobr conversions, the fdic only insures banks to so much i have a 300 blackout coming at some point, and im sure others will be hitting the ee once they ship.if mine has the accuarcy typical of larue it will be awesome pete |

As you see below, I am working on it. Posted this a few days ago. Still haven't had the opportunity to work with it any more, but am confident in it at this point.
