My buddy just took  in an older sp1 slab side and it looks to never have been fired, I was woundering if it would be a worth while purchase.  I know I have plans for a 9mm but its really really nice.

ETA it also was traded in with a aimpoint electronic mark 3

SP1's are awesome and I think everyone should own one. You should keep it all original though.

Also you are in the Colt forum asking about buying a Colt, so of course you will be told "yes".

Buy as many Colt's as you can. That's my recommendation.

Thats what I was thinking but the gun I really want is a flattop colt 9mm sbr, and I don't think they will both fit in the budget

IMO if you want a shooter, no don't buy it.
But it does sound like a nice safe queen.

$900 for 'looks unfired' is an excellent deal.

That's a pretty good deal, but I'm kind of similar situation as you, I want to buy an excellent SP1 to add to my four Colts already but I'm still working on my current SPR project, the SP1 would have to wait.

My first ever new AR-15 was a SP1 fourty one years ago, I had it for about thirteen years and enjoyed using it all those years.

The only thing I didn't like about it is the lightweight profile barrel and if you held the handguards too much, the point of impact changes a little, so I just adapted by being careful not to use the sling and pull on the handguards.

Any reason why you like a 9mm SBR instead of a 5.56 SBR?

because 5.56 is not a very effective sbr round and 9mm will silence better, and it will be cheaper to shoot.  If I dont buy this gun my buddy will probably put the gun in his colection.
