was sitting around today and all of a sudden I hear a net start on my 2 meter, well thats Odd, its Sunday, not Monday, the voices and call signs didn't sound familiar either. I listen a bit and look up a call, sure enough, they are in Duluth MN, 245 miles away from me.  I had them coming in like they were the next city over, listened for a bit, tried to check into the net  but they couldn't hear me.

I ended up sending off an email to one of the guys I looked up and he thanked me for the report and told me that they added a tone to their repeater recently, which is probably why I couldn't check in.

anyway it was really exciting and fun, and I figured I would share.

I hit repeaters all the time when its hotter than hell out. Sometimes I use a moxon with a 180 degree lobe. I hit a repeater on the back side but not when I point it towards the repeater. Strange thing happen sometimes.  I heard there are places in California that can hit Hawaii  on a regular basis on 2 meter.

My local club, LIMARC, removed a tone to eliminate another repeater we were hearing from CT.  I do not know how far away they were, but it started, then stopped, but when it stopped, I could not be heard on the repeater!  I did not know that I needed to remove the CTCSS decode tone.  I thought that my move into the new house gave me a worse location to reach the repeater.
