| I was going to try this year; honestly think I have a bad barrel from Henry. Picked it up right before season last year and fired off two rounds with iron sights; no impact no idea at 50 yards. Decided to take a very nice Leupold off an AR-10 and remounted it to the Henry. Went to sight it in this year and I ran out of windage hitting 7 inches left at 50 yards. |

Rifle: Henry .45-70 Bullet: Federal Fusion 300gr Shot: 150yds shooting down from a hill, quartering away, shot entered high rear, hit both lungs turning them to jelly, exited just behind the front leg. Missed the stomach and heart thankfully. Result: Ol' boy trotted about 30yds into a thicket and laid down forever. After he was shot he bucked and the tail flickered like mad. Attached File Last year, but pretty happy with the results. Loaded some 325gr. LHP to about 1400fps and they worked great. About a 60yd broadside shot. Had a small buck with it, and both were trotting along. This one stopped, it looked a decent size, and I gave her one. Could see the blood pouring out both sides of her as she ran, and she fell after maybe 75 yards. Lungs were pretty much jelly. Attached File This one is this year, and not a 45-70, but I did use a 44 magnum with the 300gr. XTP. About a 40yd shot, quartering towards me. Hit just a little far back and higher than ideal, but as he was higher on the mountain than me, that helped the bullet nick his spine. He dropped at the shot, and tried to get up when I got close, so I put a finisher into him. I really do love those heavy slow-moving boolits! |

I’m using a Rossi, it was $720 - I did have to purchase a rail for the optic. I’ll upgrade eventually to a little nicer rifle, but besides the safety (just existing on a lever gun), and me needing to tighten the stock screws, I’ve been pretty impressed. |

Attached File .460 S&W with Barnes 200gn @ 2750fps. It was a small spike buck about 60yards down in a steep valley, he went about 15' and dropped. Went in at a downward angle and clipped the heart, I'm a fan of the Barnes bullets. Thankfully I could get the atv down there....lol I might try out the 45-70 next weekend. |
