GlockTiger, 40m is real dead tonight. Your sending speed was good for my copy but your signal strength was way down tonight though and was being covered a little with all the QRN. I was operating low power at first then turned it up when I noticed the setting. Did you notice a difference in my signal on my last transmission? I realize it must be tedious for you sending so slow and I thank you for your patience. I'm working on my speed though. Had a bad headache tonight and listening to the static trying to hear any other stations in there was making it worse. Hope conditions improve. |

Hey, don't worry about it. Once I got my keyer speed set right, it was all good. Glad we could sync up. Band is not wonderful tonight -- kinda so-so. I'll probably be on the road at sked time tomorrow night, but will consider taking the rig and setting up portable at my parents' place for the weekend. I know Jaxshooter will be portable again this weekend too, so y'all listen for both of us. |
Conditions sucked for me too. There was a lot of thunder and menacing skies. When the lightning started I decided to strike everything down. I had my VHF antenna up also and pulled it all down. Mobile ops aren't working out too well for me. fwiw I scrapped the P1. Couldn't get the damned thing below 16.5 SWR. The Buddistick was easy to get to 1.6. |

Anybody have MT-63 or Olivia capabilities? It might make it easier for distant stations to check in digitally. One can still receive voice while receiving MT-63. Just a thought for the net.  Net Control needs to give their call sign more often so check-in stations know who they are calling. |

Just looked at the MT-63 info... that looks great. Still putting stuff together but I'll work on it. Nice talking to everyone tonight  ETA:  Gratuitous rig photo of my temporary setup while on the net tonight  I used both rigs actually, as the S8-S9 static was getting tiresome and the yaesu has DSP noise reduction.ScottPD, thanks for the after-net audio check and QSO, I called for you on 20 after changing antenna but didn't hear anything from you, worked someone in Hawaii though. |

I didn't have a pencil and paper at first and was trying to copy in my head.....no worky I lost track part way through the first time.When I wrote it down, I got it no problem. I found my Bencher iambic key today, it was packed away with some other gear. Have to get used to it again. Character formation with it is easier than a straight key. My Icom 761 has the electronic keyer built in and it makes it easy and also to monitor my transmissions with the sidetone. Cw signal was very good on this end, voice on most stations was marginal with the static. |
That's ok -- a little head copy practice is healthy . FB on the Bencher -- I'd still like to get a true paddle one day. I'm still using an Ameco straight key and my homebrew paper clip touch keyer. This week I've been on the TS-520 so the sk is my only option (no keyer in the 520).

Thunderstorms last night just before net time and the only audio I heard was a few snippets among the continuous static crashes. I did hear a little CW which would have been perfectly copyable except my CW skillz are now non-existent. Plus I was late

Next time hook up a key and play with us. Certainly no pressure -- hopefully Tommygun will attest to that. Even if it's just exchanging callsigns and sending 73. |
My callsign is about the only thing I could send or recognize on CW.. besides SOS and CQ. I'll find the paddle and plug it in though. |

Noise floor and band conditions are much worse today than the past few days. However, I did make contact with V31UB in Belize on 20M after work today! I spoke with 4 Arfcom stations tonight while attempting to act like some sort of net control. Thanks for playing all, this is really good practice. |

I'm going to be out of net contact for a while, probably 3 weeks. I have to send my radio back for warranty repair  I might be able to check in with my mobile and wimpy antenna if the conditions are good one night, I tried last night and no dice, couldn't be heard I guess. |

That doesn't happen to me now but it did last year. You're probably getting some BC reception that the rest of us further East/North don't hear. The static here now is the worst it's been all week, nearly S9. Not sure what will happen with this net. There is a QSO on freq right now with a 5 station and they're having trouble with the band & noise. ETA: You and I should try to have make contact an hour or two later sometime. I think 0100Z is a little early for me this time of year here. It's way early for you and others out West on 40M. |

You all are just full of complaints! I kid I kid. 20M works fine for me, but we have some stations that aren't 20M capable. On top of that, 0100z is getting towards the "later" side for us Eastern and Central stations. Perhaps we should just do an East Coast and West Coast separate. Different times and freqs. Many of the west coasters are already doing that (they have a thread going too), although there's really no need for different freqs if they're on the same band. At this point, we have a roster of about 10-12 guys who are actively trying to link up each night. That's more that we've had at one time in the past (and more than many of the general interest ham HF nets), so I think it's working pretty well. I've been on the radio almost every night and I can't remember when I haven't had at least one contact from the group. And even then, that person can usually hear somebody else, thus the network is alive. Keep up the good work!
