I want to hear all of your problems, issues and cons of hunting with an AR platform.  I don't care how small they are I want to hear them.  Don't be shy.

I hunt with 6.8SPC and .260rem AR's. the ONLY thing that I might consider a con is the weight of my .260(16lbs) but with a good sling its barely noticeable on my 1/4 mile hike to the deer stand. its well balanced so it still comes up nice when I need a quick shot.(got a running buck this year with it off hand at 75yds)  no complaints at all about the ar-15 platform. weight is nice, comes up easy, light recoil. a major plus for the system in my mind is the construction materials. we had a nasty rainy/snowy hunt this year. while the rest of my party with traditional rifles were keeping their guns in the case in the deer stand, my REPR was just fine out in the rain. with its sst barrel, aluminum receiver, and plastic stock, there's nothing to rust on it.

i think the AR platform is idealy suited to hunting.

My only issue is having the rounds scarred up when removing them from the weapon
at the end of the day.  Otherwise, LOVE IT!

What's not to love?

Seriously though, I rarely grab anything else except for elk hunting.

The only down side I have heard from 308 AR platform owners is the weight issue.

This has never bothered me, but I'm also not climbing mountains and stalking for hours with it.

After packing my M1A for years hunting/stalking My.308 AP4 is a dream to carry. If you pack it long enough you get used to it.

ETA Depending on how you carry and the type of charging handle you have And if you wear a pack. The charging handle can get caught up in the pack straps, again depending on what type of pack you use as well. YMMV

I love my RRA .458 SOCOM for hunting whitetails, my only issue like stated above is the weight, but with a climber on my back and the gun hanging in front it kinda balance's me out.

The only thing I can think of is they can be a little loud to load compared to a bolt gun....not really a problem, just have to work around it if a situation presents itself and you need to be a little stealthy...

That aside, it's a great hunting platform....great ergonomics, multi-cartridge multi-use capability, modular and easy to customize for different shooters....

I've been lugging around my .25-223 AR15 for the last 3 days trying to get a shot at a deer.

None have presented themselves.

Only down side I've found.  This morning it was 28 degrees and with a thin pair of gloves on and an Aluminum free float tube my left hand got cold pretty quick.  Thankfully I put my tactical sling on the rifle so it pretty much just hung in front of me with my right hand on the pistol grip most of the time.

When another hunter ask what I am hunting with and I tell him it's an 45 caliber AR. Fudd's eyes will roll!

Hm, the Al handguard is cold and it is impossible to close the action on a round without making a bunch of noise.  I have tried the forward assist but I can't get the extractor to override the round on my R25.
